OK so a progress report. The Chase was flying great... And then I got bored of KDS sorting out the 380 stretch kit. So I did it myself Actually I also got the metal upgraded auto gear as well so I wanted to swap over, so the timing was right to try the stretch as the Heli was in bits.

A Protos 500 stretch boom is long enough to cut the ends off and make a 445mm long boom to give a 20mm stretch. Luckily a Trex 500 belt is also just the right length to give an extra 20mm... Bargain!

So I bought a pack of Protos booms I've used the alloy boom for now as I got 2 in a packet in case I messed one up, and the Carbon boom for the Protos stretch is mega money!

If I remove the canopy the Chase will still fit in my current case as well so that's a bonus for carrying it around.

Now I just need to get my hands on a set of 380mm Zeals

    Anyway here she is

So cut a Protos 500 stretch boom to 445mm ( standard boom is 425mm ) and using an Align Trex 500 tail belt. I cut off each end of the Protos boom with a pipe cutter and then drilled the holes slightly smaller than required and then filed the holes to get placement and size spot on.

Will be flying it with 360's on for now as the 380's aren't' available yet, but since the Goblin is out soon blades will become available soon as well.

I understand from Glen that he's tested the prototype parts KDS have sent him and now KDS are doing some internal testing before releasing the official kit.

I have been known to plant the odd 450 so hope you're right about the 'tank' comment Pete lol........we will see
I believe you did indeed see mate lol

So I swapped my Chase 360 over to VControl and flew it for the first time yesterday. I say flew it but I didn't get long as I switched into Bank 3 and lost the tail

Damage looks to be frames, ESC tray, frame spacer, boom ( my stretched boom I'd made ) and the ESC wires were sliced clean by the frames. I wasn't flying with the canopy as I was just doing a test everything was OK. Had I put the canopy on I might have destroyed that but not the frames and ESC.

OK so today I took delivery of a YEP60 to replace the HW ESC that was damaged in my crash. Fitted, ran up the heli on the bench and I got massive vibrations when spooling up. Reading about it seems the YEP ESC doesn't work properly with the scorpion motor as it's a 10pole motor... Bugger

No the Kontronik is faulty I think. It programs ok but won't run the motor and the LED just flashes

Have you done a mode one reset and then tried again?

I'm sure it took the software update fine (well it said it did) but I didn't try and use it... So I guess it is possible something went wrong there and we need to try and re-update it. Feel free to send it back to me and I can try and get it going for you. Don't worry about return postage it wasn't too much.

Might as well try as it would be junk otherwise.

Yeah I've tried a few times. On a Spectrum RX and on vControl and same thing each time. Tried it on several different motors too.

I'm going to try re-soldering the motor bullets just in case but otherwise I'll stick it in the post to you mate. Having tried 2 motors and 2 different RX's I think it's just faulty out the box. Have emailed Kontronik as well but had no reply yet. Since I don't have an invoice to claim on the warranty I'm thinking it might not be worth the cost of a repair though.

The guy on ebay I got it from has offered me my money back if I can't get it to work as he can't find the invoice. I'd rather have it working but there is that option if need be.

OK so it seems my troubles with this heli are far from over.

I got some new parts yesterday as the tail has never been right from day one and after flying my other helis with rock solid tail hold it was getting annoying. So I rebuilt the tail with all new parts, and wow it's so much smoother than the previous kit parts, and also less play in the blade grips etc.

So got everything ready to try out and then was wobbling the stick around to get oil on the tail shaft and then the servo stuttered and then started working again. So I tried the same with the collective and it happened again. On fast repeated pitch changes I get low voltage warnings and vbar resets. Now I've not experienced this in flight but it's now worrying me.

Tried the same thing on my Rave 450 and it works fine, same ESC but different servos.

I tried pluging a LiFe pack in directly and I get the same issue, so it's not the BEC in the hobbywing that is at fault. Disconnect servos from links, same thing. Remove servos and with only tail and one cyclic servo things look ok, but add another and it happens just the same.

Then after a search I find this. Reverse current of the servos | VStabi

Could explain it, basically the KDS servos causing reverse current and causing issues.

I'm going to try adding a CAP to see what happens, that will prove the theory. Then I have to decide whether to fly it with a cap installed or change the servos.

Well the caps didn't help. Chase is grounded while I decide where to go next. Replacement servos or give up with the lot.
