Don't be such a defeatest Pete. You can have a problem with any model or make. Granted you seem to have more problems than most Lol but it's a 450 not a mostro.Originally posted by PeteStewardson View PostWell the caps didn't help. Chase is grounded while I decide where to go next. Replacement servos or give up with the lot.
The chances are you have one servo that is pulling too much current maybe a short to the casing. Do some more testing as one servo is cheaper than 3.
3 servos are under £60 not exactly make or break in this hobby mate is it ?
Get it fixed and enjoy it ......gonna be a good summer

I'm not being defeatist Don, maybe just the way I've written the posts.
I would have ordered some of the Turnigy ones yesterday but wasn't sure if they'd do as a tail servo. I'll do some more research. I need a practice heli for summer and the Rave 450 spares issue means that one isn't suitable, so I'll need to get something running. I'll sort it eventually, I was having too much fun flying the Logo today to do anything with it

Just found the thread I was remembering on HF.
KDS N630HV and N650HV problem. - HeliFreak
Its a widespread issue with KDS servos and mini-vbars by the look of it.Pete

OK so changing servos sorts out the issue with the brownouts. But sadly my woes are not over.
Went out today again and took the Chase to try it out with the new smooth slider. Well the tail wag is worse than ever!
I used the blade holder from my Logo to prop up my iPhone for a video.

I'm using the governor in the vbar now, I did have wag when I ran with the HW governor too. It got a bit better without the governor on the HW but never went away. It seems worse now but I've changed so many things. Just loosing all patience with it if I'm honest.Pete

Figured I should post an update as there's been a couple of things progressing on the tail wag.
I've replaced the entire tail, head dampers, main shaft, feathering shaft, all the bearings in the head, new thrust races the lot. Also fitted carbon blades.
Still had tail wag. Figured it had to be governor related as there wasn't anything else left it could be.
Then my Goblin 380 arrived and I needed servos for it so having an annoyance moment and loosing patience the servos all came out of the Chase to go in the Goblin. I put the Chase up for sale as I couldn't be bothered with refitting it out and trying without a governor.
I've been ill for a couple of days and having chatted with Rob @ agile-heli and staring at it on the shelf, and then the wife taking up the entire living room sorting out the orchestra music, I decided to strip all the motor to main gear belts and pulleys down for a good look.
And there it is, the source of the issues. The second stage pinion sits between two bearings and the spindle on both ends of this pinion has worn down meaning it wasn't even spinning the bearing anymore and was loose to move about. By hand you couldn't move it as the belt tightness keeps it in place but in use it must be moving around.
I'm glad I didn't sell it now as the new owner would have not had a perfect heli.
Anyway I'll be getting the bits to sort it soon, but I'd advise anyone with a chase to check there pinion fit in the bearings, and I think use bearing retainer to hold the pinion in the bearing so the bearing is doing it's job properly.Pete
