sorry just seen this. i can't remember.. oh, my receiver is inside under the main shaft. the wires come out towards the tailboom (i've bundled up all the wires to make it easy to route.Originally posted by choppertastic View PostI'm trying to tidy up the wiring on mine, it's fitted behind the mainshaft above the tailboom block and I'm just having a total nightmare trying to hide the cables.
How have you fitted/hidden the wires on yours?
if you need photos, let me know and i can get some tonight.
i've not flown it since i crashed it a couple of months back. been flying the 500 instead but i'm keen on getting the 450 up again. in fact, i've borrowed a friend's servo tester so i can re-set it up tonight and hopefully fly it this weekend.

my rx is on the side as the tail servo sits right in the middle of the frames but what I did was bundle the excess wire up and use ty-wrap saddles to fix the bundled wires down. Hopefully (if HQ permits) I will see how it fly's tonight. I'm really chomping at the bit to fly as I've hardly done any this year.

Ok. I've been out and about playing with the ZYX again. I am still struggling to get my head around this FBL stuff. I have my gyro gain set on 63% on the TX and cant go any higher otherwise it's tail wags like a dog on crack. I'm guessing its something to do with the gain at 100 in the screen dump but how does this relate to the gain setting on the tx?

Drop the gyro gain on the front page from 100 to 90. That should stop the wag. Then use the TX gain to fine tune at the field.Originally posted by choppertastic View PostOk. You should also consider downloading the latest john-nz software which is version 2.1. When you have that installed follow the instructions you'll find on Helifreak (loads on there about the ZYX) and update the firmware in the ZYX to version 3.5. It is so much better and loses some of the glitches the original has.
I have one of these on my 450 PRO and have had for a while. I have also one on my 600 nitro. That took more setting up due to nitro vibes etc but its there and OK for the limits of my 3D capability. I have a flybarred 700 which is currently for sale (because I want a big electric). If it doesn't sell then its a RJX head and a ZYX on there as well. What I'll do is move the ZYX off the 450 and fit a ZYX-S on the 450, thus removing the need for a seperate receiver - which will tidy the wiring up no end. (Can't do that on the 700 as I need to retain the governor).
You have to be more patient than you do with a BeastX or vBar etc but if you stick at it they work just fine. Don't bother trying to perfect it without using your laptop though.
For those who knock it - mainly the VeeeeeeeBarrrrrrrr boys - would any of you like to explain specifically what you have found the failings of these to be? All I ever hear from my club mates is like "well I wouldn't trust it at that price", sort of thing.__________________________________________

If you have the ZYX set at 100% then the setting that you have in your Tx is the Gain. If it holds fine at 63% then leave it there - I have 4 of these on different helis and my Gain is lower than 63% on all I think - and they hold fine.Originally posted by choppertastic View PostOk. Has to be said that MikeJ is one of the worlds leading experts on the ZYX! I had my gain at 100 on the front page but tranny was down at 53. I dropped it to 90 to give me some leeway with the transmitter at the field.
(Mike have you got an "S" yet andis it as straightforward?)__________________________________________

Thanks Dave - I wish it were true.
The other option that you have if you want to raise your Tx gain is to drop the mechanical gain by moving the ball in on the servo arm, so long as you get enough movement to get full travel.
No I haven't got an "S" - I'm trying (unsuccessfully
) to keep my heli expenditure down.
What firmware are you running ? I recently upgraded mine to 3.5 and it is a real improvement - particularly if you are running with low cyclic gains due to cyclic oscilations. If you do it (recommended) then drop the PID D gains to 10 before your first usage.Last edited by Mikej; 24-08-2012, 08:34 PM.

I've just updated to 3,5 on both the 450 and 600.Originally posted by Mikej View PostThanks Dave - I wish it were true.

I've flown the 450 but went through a whole re-set up anyway but the 600 I've just hovered in the back garden. I'm off to try it this morning - subject to weather etc etc. Better take laptop then in case adjustments are needed !__________________________________________

Over the weekend I went through the setup again using Johns setup software (I also did V3.5 of the firmware). I also set my tail gain in the ZYX to 90%. All I can say is what a different it has made. It's now so responsive that I've had to dial in some expo. I have increased the tail gain in the TX to about 80% and no sign of tail wag.
Just need to get it to the field as I only had a play with it in the garden

Hi guys, I assume the software picks up what version of Firmware the zyx/zyx-s si running. Mine is now en-route from HK, which is a bit faster than my last orfer i did with them. so hats off to them this time. first order i ever placed with them in August took 5 days to get dispatched and 20 days total to arrive, this order i have just placed took about 10 hours to be dispatched, wow! It comes with the USB dongle but was thinking about getting the Bluetooth 4 pin serial that is mentioned over on fbl.net/n.z. Has anyone tried this?RickGaui 425 - Stretched to 550 - now FBLGaui Stock 850kv Motor Geared 14T/42F/19OWB/61M/14Tail 2000 approx HS3 x Spektrum DS821's Cyclic1 x Hyperion DS20-GFD TailHobbyKing (Tarot) ZYX-S FBL Controller (When it Arrives)DX6i
