    hi, is it Ron?

Once again a newby, bought the Blade 400, 17 batteries untill the accident - mostly driving round up to a foot off the deck - know how eddie's contact deweydaddy feels/felt, sure he is flying now. I'm going to use your begginer settings after the last repair part arrives (servo gears). But....

    beginers level
    d/r - expo
pos 0 100% expo as req" (with expo + values numb the controls - values sharpen them)+20% is a good start point for beginers
pos 1 80% expo as req"

I have set the screen to read
    D/R & Expo
    Aile 0 100% +20%
    Elev 0 100% +20%
    Rudd 0 100% +20%

Have I set the correct settings on the DX6i controller? what does pos 1 80% expo as required mean? All the rest of your settings makes sense on the controls. What does d/r - expo actually do? Can anyone recommend a book on flying r/c helis?

    Thats the lot, night night

Sorry about all the questions I'm hoping to join a club soon.

hi ricky welcome to the forum.
what you have set is correct it has given you 100% control with 20% expo

on the front of the dx6i you will see two switches marked airl dr and elev dr these are the dual rate switches you will see they are marked 0 (up) and (1) down in my settings when you have them up (0) you have 100% control movement. when down (1) you have 80% the advantage of this is it calms the heli down by giving you less extremes of control.

expo on the other hand does not reduce any control movement it makes your stick less sensitive around the center point and helps with the twitchy feel whilst learning

Huge crash tonight, having been doing quite well with Phoenix and getting a nice stable hover I thought I should be alright in the hall at work, wrong!!!
Anyway it went straight back when it lifted off and it seemed, although it may have been my blind panic, that the further I pushed the right stick forward the quicker it went backwards. Real panic then set in and it took on the flight of an angry wasp with my thumbs going this way and that before the brick wall kindly put me out of my misery, doh!
Ripped both main blades off, bent the main shaft, did a servo (top one behind the main shaft whichever one that is?), flybar, landing skid, feathering shaft, basically all the usual suspects.
Anyway on going through my TX I found some settings I wasn't sure about so checked back here. Boggy's settings show - 75% aileron + elevation and + 85% for pitch. Now mine was set at + 60% for the first two and - 101% for pitch.
I've now set them to Boggy's settings but first question is what effect would the original settings have had on the heli?
Second question is that I replaced the Spektrum servo with a JR (one on top behind the main shaft) and found I had to reverse it as it was going the opposite direction the one below it so the swash plate was tilting when you pushed the throttle forward.
Finally when you push the throttle forward should the swash plate move up or down, mine presently moves down.
Hope some of this makes sense to the more experinced out there, if so can someone throw some light on making sense of it all?
Sorry it's such a long post but I will appreciate any advice that can be given, thank you.

my settings are for standard servo's if you have changed one and had to revese it the settings will no longer work!
its not a good idea to have one mismatched servo on the swash as it may work differently to the others (speed/travel etc)

the swash should go down when the throttle is raised that is correct.

you will have to set up the swash your self mate the % values can still be used but which use a + or - may need changing.

firstly using the reverse menu get all three servos working in the same correct direction using throttle only. then using the swash mix menu change the + or - values to get the swash tilting correctly (movement same as the right stick forwards/backwards/left/right)

Thanks Boggy, the replacement servo's are not JR as I thought they are JP's, I now have two the same and in future unless I can get the same make again I'll replace them in pairs.
I changed the percentage's to those in your settings and everything appears to be working as it should now, at least until the next crash!!!

Boggy, I'll try and make this the last dumb question I ask, although I can't promise, but could you please tell me what the settings should be in the sub trim menu please? Or anyone else that happens to know, I'm double checking every setting on my TX and these are shown as 0% for throttle, elevation, rudder and gyro. It's set at +100% for aileron & +40% for pitch.
I tried searching this thread but I've obviously missed the bit on sub trim's somewhere.
Thanks guy's and I really appreciate your help and most of all your patience, thanks.

sub trims are to adjust out any mechanical set up faults so ideal settings are all a big fat zero.

with the motor disabled and throttle at mid stick. cyclic stick centered with no trims.(inc sub trim) every thing should look level

eg swash/ mixer arms/servo arms etc by adjusting linkages servo arms etc when you have this as near as possible, then you can use sub trim to "fine tune" it all. with the blade it is possible to get it pretty good , i run no sub trim at all!

                  Standard Servo's

Ahh, once again, a new guy asking question..What do you mean by standard servo's. Mine are the DS75H digital, the gyro is G110. I use the G35 simulator. I'd like to use your beginner settings. but I just want to make sure I have everything right.

By Standard Boggy just means the ones that come with the Heli . Boggy's settings are awsome , i was really struggling until i altered mine to what Boggy suggested . It was just so much tamer to fly . Thanks Boggy . Rob

                      thanks rob

metoleous you can still use the throttle and pitch curves but the gyro gain/ swash mix +/- / and revese/normal values may well need tweaks

Boggy , Thank you very much for the settings. I have the 400, and the CP Pro. Just sent the CP to Horizon to fix it. All it did since day one is roll hard left and onher back. finally got the swashplate set up and she went up nicely. Then the 3 in 1 went out. Anyway I hope they can fix it and test everything. It looks like she'll be fun to fly. I just got the 400 3D, and made some really big training gear for it. Actually wider than the rotor. I get her up about two feet and can hover. Well, a wide hover.haha I'll get it down though. Oh and I use the G35 sim several hours a day.

                            Hi....

I've been reading this thread and although i have the TS3D i also have the dx6i and because these 2 heli's are very similar i thought said settings would apply to me in some respects...........i havn't actually tried these setting as yet but one thing i have noticed is that most are using dual rate in the gyro (adjust list) so they can remote change there settings with in the tx.............when i do this my gyro switch only works in the rate mode no matter which switch setting i use 0/1.

I realise that this maybe down to the figures/settngs i have in each mode......but i guess my statement is i'm wondering if because i've got the gyro in INT plus using the pot on the HL400 is why i'm having no drift problems............just a thought or i maybe well off course.

I just punched in your settings on my DX6 for my realflight G3.5. at first when I set it up to their settings. Well, lets just say crashing was fun. everything was EXTREMELY twitchy!! Your setting work really well. Haven't crashed since!!
                              Thanks!!

I just bought a B400 on eBay "NIB" "RTF" NOT! Have been looking for just this information for three days. Mine had junk settings in it and no swash plate mixing. T/R servo wrong direction etc. I haven't had any experince for 14 years and no electric at all. I just knew enough to know it wouldn't fly without a anti torque T/R and servos doing their own thing with the swash plate and rotor disk. The seller is POed at me for complaining that he mailed it parcel post 11 days after I made a Paypal payment and the terms of the sale were "NEXT DAY" delivery. It has a lot of other problems too but won't go into it now. He called me a "CRY BABY!!" and I didn't even complain about the helicopter yet because I wasn't yet aware that it wasn't "RTF" I just want to get it worked out and rigged so I can fly or hover. This information is what I have been looking for so will now program it, Make adjustments to it and hopefully fly. This is the first time I have been screwed on eBay and I have been using ebay for over ten years!

Thanks again for this valuable information.
