Keefy, is it your first heli? If so make sure you get somebody with you the first few times who's been around helis a bit. She can be a bit twitchy. Ron knows how to really tame it down but you still need someone to give her the once over for you if you haven't had a proper heli before.

First REAL Heli, only Lama v4 co-ax before. Did the power-on check with battery to check controls going in right direction. Would love some help - I have contacted local club and will go along and see what happens - before doing anything.Last edited by keefy; 17-08-2008, 03:44 PM.T-Rex 500CF + Dx6i AR6200 DSM2 6-channel RX

Glad to hear it, my own 400 is my first REAL heli, and my first attempt at flight literally ended in tears, I stupidly flipped idle up and it tipped and wrecked itself, it was heartbreaking. Now I'm waiting for the weather to ease up a bit so I can get her looked over by somebody who knows her inside out. Then with a bit of luck my next attempt will be successful.John

Hi Boggy, First timer to any kind of forum, kinda been stuck in the dark ages for awhile. I've never posted before, even e-mailing can be challenging at times. But here goes. I bought a Blade 400 last month, my first heli. I now cannot think about anything else. I am trying to get a good hover the past few weeks. My son 10 yrs. old sezs I drive it more than I fly it. I just laughed. He's right. Anyway I cant wait to try your settings. P.S. I hope this post works and thankssigpic PROUD OWNER OF TWO Eddie GOLD STARS

It's fair to say that I haven't made a great start with my 400, apart from when someone experienced has flown it, it hasn't managed more than a few seconds each time in my hands before crashing.
Until I read this thread I never really thought of what the settings were on my TX, stupid I know, but I asked the guy at my LHS to set it up as I'm new to this. When I bent it I took it back and he checked it over and set it up again for me.
Now having learnt how to access the functions on my DX6i I checked them against the suggetsed settings and found that they are set at -30%, could this be why I find it so twitchy on the controls?

whoooo yes gramey that means you have much more control at center stick and less at the extremities

I think you've found your problem. + expo values numb things down, - values sharpen it up so my guess is that -30% would make it close to unflyable (at least as a beginner) I'm flying with no expo on mine - tried dialling some in but found it easier without... Try setting it to Boggy's suggested +20%Blade 400 / DX6i / Phoenix / Blade CX2 / mCX / MSR

sorry graham!
gramey if you have being "managing" with -30% you may find 0 expo feels ok now. if not wind it up to 20% try it then play around till you like the feel. some people go as high as 50% but personaly i think this feels horrible
20% is just my preferance

Problem is I haven't been managing with -30%, only managing to crash, I'll alter these settings to your recommended +20% Boggy and try it from there, hopefully it will calm it down a bit.
I don't think the guy in the shop did it deliberately, he's a very experienced heli pilot and obviously set it up to fly how he would have it forgetting that he was then giving it back to a newb.

certainly would not be deliberate im sure! hitec's use minus setting for numb as do others .im sure it was just an oversight
