dx6i settings for the blade 400

the settings in general will work. pitch/ throttle curves gyro gain etc but the servo reverse menu and swash mix values will be different.set your pitch and throttle curves then with throttle hold on move the left stick up. all three servo's should move the swash plate down.( use the reverse menu to get them all working together.
then to get the swash moving in the correct direction with the right stick(forward stick=forward swash etc) change the plus and minus values in the swash mix menu. for example if the swash tilts back instead of forward and the swash mix says "elv"..+60% change it to "elv" -60%. if it tips left instead of right change the airl mix. if it tilts at an angle change the pitch mix.
allways do the reverse menu first to get all three servo's working together
if you have also changed the tail servo you will need to us the reverse menu to get the tail working correctly.
place the tail blades verticaly and fold the bottom one back(like a boat rudder) move the rudder stick right the hub should move towards the boom and the rear of the blade move away. if not revese the servo.
then pick the heli up by the head and swing the tail right. the same should happen (hub towards boom/rear of blade away) if not flick the rev switch on the gyro to opposite what it is set at presently.Last edited by Boggy; 02-03-2009, 11:53 PM.

Dx6i /Phoenix
Hi Ron
Have been putting in hours of practise on sim and think I am now ready to put an order for the real thing.
However, just another question I hope that you can help with.
In the tool bar if you follow: Model> Edit model>Fine Tuning>Control Expo, then the latter has different values (for elev, aileron, rudder) depending on the model, as well as being adjustable.
With the figures that you provided as a guide to Begginner's set up entered into the dx6i does the tx over ride these settings OR do I have to manually adjust the expo settings on Phoenix for each model I fly as well (to your suggested values)?
Many thanks
John G

hi john
ill be honest i didnt even know one version of the blade had expo added. but in answer to your question the phoenix expo takes precedence by the looks of it.(if your using 25% and phoenix is also i assume it must be more like 50%. although it dosen't feel that much)
ive just had a little play and found it feels better to zero the phoenix setting and use your tx expo. (make a copy of your settings/model or every time you start phoenix you will have to reset the values in the edit menu
i also see the std version has rate gyro enabled in the tail rotor menu. that needs changing to heading hold .

Boggy, I think this is probably one of the most important pieces of Phoenix advice there is for newbies, coz that probably explains why my real Blade400, with identical settings to Phoenix, was so much more sentitive and reacted so differently to what I was expecting the first time I took it out.
I zero'd the expo on Phoenix and when I tried again it felt much closer to what I'd experienced in real life, so it's back to over-controlling for a bit while I readjust my brain - again...

At least Phoenix is now getting close to my proper Blade400 behaviour... so all I need now is the weather to sort itself out so I can get properly airborne again!F@*k, that sounded bad...
Blinged Blade CX3 - Still couldn't fly in to a fart
Blade 400 - El Diablo
Phoenix 2.0 for rainy days

Dx6i settings (again)!!
Ron (or any other volunteers)
Are you out there again?
Ever thought of moving to Swansea?
Sorry-back to subject in hand.
RE Your setting guide figures:
1) Why set throttle hold to 0.5% not zero?
2) I think I know this answer but on Dx6i can you alter the increments by which the trim is adjusted per click- I have a situation where one click is too much!
3) Someone adjusted my Travel settings when they checked the blade trim to 'settle it down'. Unfortunately can't find this person to ask re relevance of changes. Your guide was for all at 100% except Rudder (90%).
My readings are now:-
T-100%
E-70%
G-80%
A-70%
R-85%
P-100%
Will this be of benefit to me and if so, why are they 'better' (or not) than the guide figures??
4) If the gyro is set below 50% does this automatically make the gyro work as standard rate (as opposed to 50% plus = H.H.)?
Sorry for all the questions but no one local to help.
Just in case though are there any keen heli flyers around the Swansea area who would be willing to guide a very keen begginner in the right direction??
(The main heli club has closed its membership).
Cheers
John

1. its set lower than 0 so that its definatley off.
2.you cant alter the increments
3 he has effectively given you 70% travel on a and e( my settings do this by using dual rates.they are at 80%)so dr switch up=100% ...down=80%
4. yes

I've been reading through this thread as I've got a Blade 400 and Phoenix on their way to me now. I'm intending to have some time with Phoenix first (if I can remain patient enough), but am already fairly confused at the plethora of settings that there seems to be.
Is there a straightforward "quick start" setting for the TX and Phoenix, or do I need to spend the first hour or so getting the settings just so?
I could hover my 4#3b fairly well, so I'm hoping that the Blade will be a little easier, although I've got training gear on the way too.
Thanks

The DX6i that comes with the blade 400 has settings already set at model 1 in the model selection screen. If you take Boggys settings in the first message but use the beginner settings and you won't got far wrong.
Defo use the sim first thats a must and once you feel happy with your tail in hovering try side and nose in etc you should be ok.
Otherwise ask and we will try to help

Thanks, so do you amend the Model 1 settings, or can you copy and create a model 2?Originally posted by spunkmyer View PostThe DX6i that comes with the blade 400 has settings already set at model 1 in the model selection screen. First off, don't think because you can hove the 4#3 the Blade will be the same, she's a very different animal, though I got her hovering long before I could get the Buzzfly (same as 4#3b) hovering stably. I would spend hours on the sim, learn to fly the hardest settings you can find, wind and all. Then do yourself a huge favour and find a local club, somebody to help you out. A bit of sidelines coaching can do wonders for your confidence as I learned.Originally posted by MrMajic View PostI've been reading through this thread as I've got a Blade 400 and Phoenix on their way to me now. I tried to fly my B400 in the garden the first time, having lost patience to wait any longer, crashed (twice no less) within seconds each time. She's a lovely heli once you have the hang of her, but do get help flying and you'll get so much more pleasure out of her.John

Hi, Thanks for all the info on here guys. After my crash I am setting my Blade up from scratch. Have noticed alot has been said about mechanical setup. My Blade has has zero sub trim except on the pitch servo which has 14. Is this too much? Had a tendency to want to roll quite violently to the left so could this be the cause?
Also which is the best mode for the gyro for a complete newbie?
Cheers, John.

If you rebuilding i would set all trims including sub to zero. You want to setup 0 pitch at midstick. Then as much +/- pitch that suits your flying style. Of coure check your CofG before each flight. A little trim maybe needed once you fly next but don't confuse ground effect and sidewinds. If its really pulling hard to the left then trim it out, land and look at the swash plate. is the swash now level. Work it from here.Mike, 3rd Hampton Scout GroupSpectrum DX7
