  • I would (and do) configure in the full +ve/-ve pitch for IDLE2, and the same -ve (about -6 degrees) for Normal, IDLE1 and HOLD. My governor is only active in IDLE1 and IDLE2 running different head speeds and this means the heli is tame for circuits in IDLE1 but in IDLE2 I can practice my flips, loops, stall turns and inverted etc...

I have always though that enough pitch for an auto (i.e. around -6) to maintain the head speed on the way down would be sensible as it might just buy a cheap or successful unplanned auto...

So are you doing its maiden tomorrow then Mart? If so I will bring along the camcorder...

    • Sound advice there, Rob. Yes, I may well do the maiden tomorrow, but not totally sure yet. I'll keep ya posted.

      • hi -2 may not be enough if you get hit by a gust of wind it may not come down

I usually run -6 low 0 center 12 high in normal (not idle up)

you have lots of experiance just go with the flow

I know its a big heli but Dont stress about it the 700 is like a big pussycat

        I love mine to bits

          • Well, hope to be at the field today, if I can shift this headache.

Engine question: How have you guys got the OS 91 Pumped engines set up? I not this one has two needle valves. Any recommendations as to how I should set them up for running in?

            • I got mine at about 1 1/2 turns out on both needles, it seems to run nice there, you get the lean sound if you go any further in, I'm still getting about 11 mins 3d aswell.

              • Well, just took her out into the garden, carried out low speed runs, power runs and a test flight.

                Initial observations:
                • Tis a bit scary. I burned half a tank before I had the bottle to lift off
                • Running the engine at the book setting (2.5 turns on hi-speed needle and 1.5 turns on mid speed needle). It's running very rich - a fair amount of unburnt fuel was ejected from the muffler
                • Tail blades scare me. I tightened them up a bit as it looks like, at max pitch, they may have hit the boom during spool-up before the blades were fully extended
                • I have the throttle curve maxing out at 80%. To me the head speed seemed a tad low. Do these machine like a high head speed?
                • I need to tighten and re-loctite the flybar paddles. Whilst they did not twist in flight, I just turned them whilst cleaning the machine
                • The quark has the tail well under control at 35% gain
                • Tracking looked OK but I need to reconfirm this at the field
                • I love it!

Do any you of you with pumped engines use muffler pressure? The book says that, if not using a governor, I should.

Here's a few pics. I was gonna put the canopy on and go again. However I blew the "bung" out that I put into the pressure port on the muffler, hence the arse end is now well grubby. Need to fix this before I go any further.

                All fuelled up:

                    • Well Done You !!!!!!!!!!!

I run my 700 at a govened 1850 rpm and it's fab very very smooth .
For my style of gracefull 3D (read sports flying) that's all you need.

You did very well testflying in such a small space .

I am running mine in about 10 flights now I run an OS91 HZ (no pump) at 1 turn on the midrange & 1 1/4 turns on the main tis as smooth as silk.

I love my 700 soooooo much

                              • Nice one and well done- the engine will enjoy running rich for a bit anyway and there is no way of avoiding the oil at first, epsecially if you did like me and READ the instruction book which told me the high speed needle was the lower one :PPPPPPP- seriously- I wondered why I still had channel fog coming out of my exhaust no matter how far I leaned it down- I will take reassurance in the fact my engine will have bedded in nicely on a rich mixture

Is there any reason you are not running the governer- it seems to like it and it's worth it just for the noise when it cuts in.

Loving my 700- it just makes me grin and it's so confidence inspiring to fly. I am however seriously contemplating making it pink !!
