Probably because it's the hardest of all 3D flying and anyone that can do it well can rightly be called a 3D Sky God

      So

Tareq was not there MASSIVE disappointment, so next year we might get to see Bert but then again very unlikely! That's like being Promised a date with Angelina Jolie but instead going on a date with a bit fat bloater.

I believe it will be in the same location next year, if so expect a total lack of trade stands and the few that are there wedged in amongst vintage planes.

Music, well there are ppl for and against it so that's up to you, personally it's just to loud

Flight line was 10 foot deep, makes you feel like cattle.

I see the flying improved on Sunday, so in future save yourself the trouble of going on Saturday just go Sunday.

music can add to the drama or mood of the flight, and make it more interesting to watch rather than a heli just screaming away .

Its so very hard to do , just give it a go and IF you do I promise I won't call you a "Pussy".....................

Why not come down to the air comp and watch , you might enjoy it and understand it more .

            :-)

(crap at flying to music, but brave enough to get out there and have a go )

10 foot deep, have you size 30 feet or something, there were never any issues with room, there was lots of it, just depended if you got there early enough to get the prime spots.
There is plenty more room for more trade stands and that is something that next year should improve, I know there are people that there main reason for going to to spend money.
Flying to music is easy, flying to music well is flipping hard, to be in rhythm with the music and be in the right positions at the right time takes practise, freestyle you can just wing, and sets you just practise the same one move over and over.
I love flying and watching flights to music as in my eyes shows the best skills and mistakes are hard to disguise when made

Found a photo of half the viewing area.
Was early Sunday before show started but still loads of room.

Can we close this thread now?

Summed up absolutely spot on in my opinion. The fact the stands were amongst the planes added to the experience. There just wasn't enough of them. If this is remedied next year then it will be an exceptional day out. Let's not loose sight of the fact that we are talking about a event that was effectively free!!!!

I feel obligated to ‘pitch’ in here and comment; Ok, with hind sight certain things may need to be addressed for next year like more refreshments on sale (this was addressed in time for Sunday btw) more trade stands perhaps but what you have to bear in mind is that this event is still quiet new and for some major retailers to pack up their shop and travel hundreds of miles it has to be worth it. Also remember Zone is not pitched at the type of modeler who prefers to spend hours sifting through bargain bins looking for cheap servo extensions or off cuts of fuel tubing etc..

This event is directed at pilots and fans who love to watch world class 3D flying and not the ‘car booter’ types who spend hours mooching around missing all the action.

Think of it like a wedding reception disco, if you had the bar in a separate room there would be no one on the dance floor, but if the bar was inside the room you'd have no choice but to be amongst the action, having a great time and feeling part of the party..does that make sense to anyone?

The atmosphere at Zone was electric and for that reason I see no reason for anyone to have a moan. What we have to remember that this event is aimed at a different audience than the typical RC show punter. It’s here to attract the younger element, the budding pilots who love this energetic and uplifting style of flying. Let’s face it people, we had no stop action, adrenaline and drama and I know for that fact alone Zone will attract even bigger numbers next year.

You also have to consider that many people involved at Zone gave up their free time to be a part of this exceptional event and in my mind they are the true unsung heroes so when this guy below dis-respects their efforts by moaning and groaning I feel it's unfair and unjustified. Maybe these people should get a life and keep thier fluffy slippers on and enjoy their yearly pilgrimage to old warden aerodrome or whatever floats their boat..

We had 23 of the world's best pilots at Zone, many of them told me afterwards that they pulled off the best flights of their lives purely because of the support and encouragement they got from the fans, so in my mind we owe allot to the pilots, spectators and of course the true enthusiasts who took valuable time out of their busy family lives to enjoy their time at Zone.

Well that's what I think anyway

Then I went to another stand expecting to see some good prices, nah normal prices and selling mickey mouse helicopters as well, the guys from Spin Blades looked like they just threw a few boxes in the back of the car and thought Fk it that will do.

Out to watch the flying and other than 2-3 pilots I thought the rest were average and the music is deafening, why do they play it so bloody loud, I'd rather listen to the blades than that trash.

The free flight was probably the best, as the music was toned down so you could actually appreciate the flying. I didn't see Tareq fly either, don't know if he was not there or he flew whilst I had a quick look round museum.

Would I go again, categorically NO

For me it was a 3D competition end off and for that was simply fantastic but........ perhaps people have got confused as it was described on the museums site as a R C International Air Show ?? which you expect a lot more maybe ?

Mike summed it up very well. Instead of bitching about what "you" would want, why not give a thought for the guys who put this event on reading your very unconstructive post. I know first hand how much work goes on to put a two day event on (we do it twice tearly at our club) and this kind of post makes you want to just foget it. And then what will you do at the weekend, stay at home and complain there is not enough events I guess!!!!!!!!

I congratulate the guys on their efforts and I'm sure they will take "constructive" and "private" criticism in hand and make it even better next year.

To all the guys who helped run Zone, good luck and thanks for your efforts.

As this was the first time it was held at this location would it not have been easier to post a good review on the flying and not the trade stands ( which you seem to have the biggest issue with ) ?.. These guys that pack there stuff up and take it to events and then most of the time have to pay to actually provide users with there wares. Guess next time they should say frigg it and have the full weekend off an just go fly or watch the event itself and not bother with anything . First one is always the one to take lessons from for the next time .. Pity I could not make it as its a 5/6 hour car drive for me .

I personally find flying to music, and being marked on how well u linked it to the music a bit weird. I have seen in the flesh at 3D masters, and had the balls to give it a go (albeit F3C).

In my view if the pilot is good, u don't need music to make it more exiting. Eg, watching curtis, nick maxwell, Kyle etc doesn't need music IMO.

Dancing, figure skating, yes. Model helicopters... no

I would have still liked to have gone though to see the flying.

Another thing I don't like is "Lower!" and "Higher". That would just get on my @its hearing that all day.

Each to their own of course.

Looked like a good event though and would have been good to see these experts fly. I might go to a comp soon, but just wear ear muffs
