Judging by the mails i've had from Mj about the 820 i'm thinking it must be pretty good Ben!

Hopefully he will keep it till I get home from offshore on the 11th!!

Maj, any idea of the weight without packs?

Mine rtf weighs 3929g without packs.

7s packs x2 weigh 670g each so AUW 5269g or 11.5lbs in old money.

The E820 is a dedicated kit not just a stretch however true it takes a lot of parts from the E720. Trust me it's more than man enough, 15mm main shaft, huge main shaft bearing blocks. I opted for the CNC main gear and larger pinion.

That's great thank you! I think I've been bitten by the 800 bug, just looking at the options.

What motor do you use on 12s?

Ah ok. I was never under any doubt it was man enough just was always under the impression it was a stretch because of Tims post above?

Ideally you want a KV so you end up using the 13t pinion to give more contact to the main gear. I would KV on 12s to achieve 2000rpm at 80% and then run it partial load for lower headspeeds. Depends a little on your esc choice but prob around 440 with stock 111 main gear.

Ah ok, there are subtle differences, frames, bell cranks, tail gearbox, head delta, one piece motor mount, bearing blocks and a much nicer canopy. The boom etc are the same diameter making a good solution to stretch a E720.

What sort of size with that KV, 750 Pyro or 800 Pyro?

I tried the stretched Faifa on 12s with a Scorpion 4235, which with the smallest pinion is geared about 2050 at 80%, though it felt really weak and boggy. I think I really need to use a proper size 800 motor!

I'm using a hand wound Align 800mx. The Pyro 800 is what TT market their E820's with.

The 4235 is too small IMHO intended for lighter 690 class. The F3C Align 800MX 440kv putting the brand aside is a great motor stock. I had one in a Rush Stretch and it was very good and that would drop in your Faifa with a little spacing out on the elevator arm using some tail rotor shims.

I have an e820 and I can tell you it's an awesome quality machine, I'm also building an e720 as I believe these models are underrated by many people. The e820 has amazing prescence and is one of those helis you need to see close up to appreciate it. I'm using a scorpion 5035 380kv yge 160 (cheers maj), align 700hv servos, vbar and separate lipo for servos. I'm running 14s 2 x gens ace 5000mah 40c with the 12 tooth pinion. I can get headspeed of 1400 to 1950 with the above spec.
as maj said if you run 12s you need a 13 tooth pinion generally with a slightly higher kv motor. Beware they don't seem to do the 8mm pinion in 13 tooth only in a 6mm version. Be aware that the bottom motor support comes with a bearing for an 8mm shaft so you need to change the bearing for the 6mm raptor e720 version if you go down that path.

Great suggestion on the F3C 800MX! The 4235 was just a quick fix, now I know I need to be looking at bigger cans :-)

I've also been looking at relocating the elevator servo, to make squeezing a bigger motor into the Faifa.

I'm pretty sure it's an 11 tooth for 8mm motor shaft. I know the kontronik pyro 850-40l is the motor to have for you mate lol I'm using the same setup as nick maxwell did on his backyard flight so I knew it should be ok for him, ok for me.

                              Hi All,

Been out of the hobby for a few years. Electric heli's were just becoming popular. My Dad bought me a Blade Mcpx and then a 450x to encourage me back into it as he's a plank flyer.

Used to have 30- 50 sized glow and I had a vario Benzin Acrobatic 26cc petrol heli. All before this flybarless and electric powered stuff of today.

I love the big heli's and have been dreaming bout an 800 sized heli. My flying consists of sport and some light 3d if that.

Whilst the recommended motors ESC's etc are recommended to fulfil the full potential of the very capable E820, my question is what would be an adequate setup for me concerning servos, Motor & ESC/BEC and flybarless controller for my flying type. I don't need the ~1900 rpm headspeed required for hard 3d etc. I don't want to be purchasing the edge of envelope gear with the edge of envelope cost when my flying style will not require the extra cost associated with these high end parts.

Apologies to those purists who feel the E820 is made for hard £d'rs and smack pilots and want to rip up the sky but a big RC heli is the closest I'll get to a real heli and I cant afford to stack a turbine either. The reason I got an E820 was because I picked up abrand new, unbuilt and boxed kit for £450 from a popular auction site so took the plunge and now want to get back into the hobby.

                              Cheers

Hi Woodsta - Firstly the E820 is super light and you don't need to swing 815mm blades if you don't want too, I'm pretty confident if you just wanted to do a budget build you could use standard align ds610 type servos which are always for sale second hand for good money, something like a YEP120HV speed controller these are a clone but are really good if your on a budget. You could use a hobby king motor or get a used scorpion 4530 or an 800mx as Maj said, again second hand will be OK. Use a decent bec and whatever flybarless controller you wish to use. 12s is absolutely plenty for this heli so either 2 x 5000mah or 4400mah packs would be best. So just to re-affirm you don't need to go over the top to have this heli up and flying, I have a goblin 700 using a YEP 120HV and Hobbyking motor and its got plenty of power, long flight times and a great soft start. I too can not fly hard 3d, but I am capable of smacking it to the ground in that style.
