Just to let you know you are not alone, one of my blade grip mixers is as tight as buggery even with a small shim installed The other side is as free as a bird Both look fine and I've tried reseating the bearings and still no joy

well I've fought with it all night and got no where, tired and frustrated and likely to do more damage than good if I continue on tonight

Had this on Matt's build, put the shim inside the mixer, the problem is not enough shim between the bearings on the inside. Only problem is getting one of the radial bearings out without buggering it in order to put the shim in.

How widespread is the one-way bearing problem?

Is grease really the best solution, in the past have used oil on these bearings, as it allows the rollers to move - where sometimes you can get a situation where you can't compress the grease, and the bearing locks.

I'm about to attempt that but so far it looks hard as you say, just hope I've not buggered one or both bearings already faffing around

I had some quite lightweight grease, think it was one way bearing grease. I'd be worried the oil would just get flung out.
I wondered if the problem might have been my engine being super rich, coating everything in fuel and that causing a bit of rust to jam stuff up. But with this happening to others I wonder if maybe it's a design problem or just cheap bearings in the one way.

Feel calmer now after a nights sleep

I have had to split my frames this morning to get it out.

Guess the next step is to take a hammer and drift to it. It is locked solid and the mainshaft is scored

I'm also wondering how well hardened the mainshaft is

Going to take it into Phil at Revolution Models this afternoon for him to take a look, I'm wondering whether it shouldn't go back to Climb Out as something isn't right

So how many other people are facing this issue? I think mine locked up completely after about 8 flights

Mines had 6-7 flights on now and at the end of the last flight it was locked up. Darren Hardy actually noticed before I did. After a small amount of force it went free again with some tight spots. Now after abit of spinning its free again so I think I'll take it out and re-grease before any more flights!

I know bad etiquette to quote yourself but I've just got my bearings out with the wifes' hairdryer I put the tiny shim from the parts bag in between the bearings with the standard spacer and the difference is night and day! Only problem now is that the other mixer now feels slightly tight so I really want another shim for that side Think it's free enough not to be a problem though for the time being
