Wasn't excessive although was in the midst of tuning the engine and the head speed was increasing slightly as the mixture was leaned. Governor was not engaged

You would hope anyway that the tail is designed with sufficient safety margin!

      Just done this on mine.

I couldn't understand earlier why when I took the slack out of my belt it really tightened the drive to the tail up to a point where I felt it was an issue even with the belt not being that tight. Spoke to someone else about it and they said theirs was similar. having just slightly slackened the above bolt I now have a completely free and easy tail drive again even with a relatively tight belt

I'm thinking that could possibly be the reason some tails are locking up when loaded up

Glad info was of use, Phil

Dropped my N5 off at Revolution Models and it is going back to Ade and Roger at Climb Out for further investigation

I'm impressed with their determination to get the issue investigated and resolved

After suffering a slight oneway lock up last week, I just measured the sleeve and it's 12.04mm. I tried Robs idea of sanding it down (bolted it to a main shaft and put it in a drill), but I would've been at it for a month of Sundays! I don't have any emery coarse enough to make any head way.

What I did have was a new Knight 3D sleeve... This measured 11.98mm (as the N5 one should) but is a couple of mm too long. A couple of 700N main shaft shims later and it fits great! Hopefully, no more locking up!

Well my new one way has locked up. I made doubly sure to not overtighten it as mentioned before and it was just nipped up.
Hopefully I will be able to get the main shaft out and stick in my spare unit.
This really is a bit of an issue with the N5 my feeling is it's either the one way bearing or the steel sleeve is rusting up and locking up.

Measure the sleeve. It should be just under 12mm. Flew mine with the knight one today without any problem.

Well I got it out, the lower bearing was stuck on the main shaft but some swearing and gentle persuading and it all came out.
So this time there was no scoring on the one way sleeve, however there was some brass residue on the sleeve so maybe it is jamming up on the brass inserts?
I've put some thin oil around the sleeve and brass parts now so I will see how it goes.

Damn, to late now I've just stuck it all back together! I'll measure up the spare unit later on and see what that's like.
