I'd get someone to test it for you, or tell the shop exactly what happened. One possibility is that one of the capacitors that sticks out of the esc went short and then burned itself out. There are often two in parallel, so you could be working on just one. If the shop say to go ahead then you can test it on the ground, so long as they will replace everything that fails. The capacitors can be checked visually or measured with a decent meter.

Using the ones in the kit,they don't look to long tbh.

I couldn't look in the motor as I couldn't see how it comes apart,no grub screws to be seen anywhere.

If the esc produced smoke you would be able to smell it yeah?

Had esc off last night and it smelt fine.

Ok,i spooled up with no mains or tails and it got up to approx 1000rpm and some smoke appeared from the motor

So motor is the culprit then, I would contact the vendor I bought it from, explain the situation and demand a replacement motor.

Wont need to demand as it's my local heli store just up the road and he knows im not the type to make mistakes and then blame components lol.

Can't see a replacement getting sent anytime soon so may try a 450mx 1700kv for the time being.

Problem sorted then, looking forward to see the maiden video. I saw this on Rcha, was very tempted and nearly walk off at fastlads's tent with a x5 kit but managed to control myself.

Lol,i nearly got my gopro out yesterday to film the maiden,wish i had now,would of saved me a lot of grief lol

There's a very small circlip on the end of the spinning bit of the motor. Right were the bearing is. Take that out and the motor cup slides off of the shaft to reveal the coils. I had to take one apart before now to find out why it was erratic (turned out the magnets in the cup part were all over the place at odd angles). New motor sorted my problems. It's a sod getting that circlip out and it's a sod putting the beggar back. If you're taking the motor back I wouldn't bother taking it apart. That's odd, my return key isn't giving me a new line Vikki.

Don't put one of those DOMINATOR stickers on your van's fuel cap then. Lord only knows what it'd do to your van when you tried to start it!

Its a grub screw in the vented part of the motor & also to separate the two parts you will need to heat it up in the oven.
I would just take it back to the shop.
