check a/f and check it isn't froze up
    if ok
check the water pump drive belt (does the p/s work?)
    if ok
    thermostate
    if it don't cure it
water pump drive, this will require a new water pump and p/s pump
as the p/s pump drives the water pump
you won't get away with just a water pump

if the drives ok is the impellar still on the water pump?

also check that the heater matrix isn't blocked and the electronic water valve for the heaters is working
and clear any snow away fron the air intake

    water loss
    hose/rad/heater matrix/oil cooler:-heat exhanger leaking
    water pump seal leaking
or it could be just due to overheating the pressure build up will push it out of the cap's pressure valve

if you end up changing the water pump and you damage the p/s pump pipe union you can get the union as a spare (the spares dept will try to sell you a complete pipe)

Yes unlike the transit all tddi mondeo's have dual mass flywheels, There is a kit available to change them to single mass flywheels, I've done a couple at work when the dual one's have failed.

My Mondeo is ok, but my wife's Focus has a problem - I think it's the operator.

She went out last night about 6pm and came home 5 minutes later..... "I've had an accident in the car....."

No ice, no skidding, no bad weather, just a stationary object (a trailer) which she knew as there, and still managed to not only make contact while trying to parallel park, but continue driving for a further five feet as it gouged a trough all down the side of the car, split the back wheel arch in two and ripped the rear bumper off!

Nobody hurt thankfully, but an unnecessary waste of money in my opinion. She would argue, "So are RC helis", so I guess we're even. Or are we? After all, who pays for the car repairs and the helis?

at least i know i can convert mine to a proper flywheel when i change the clutch/water pump and cam chain in the summer
can you get me a part number for the conversion and the clutch i need

I'll have a look tomorrow, might need reg number or chassis number to be certain of getting correct part number, there's normally a few variables depending on exact build date.

If you mean leaking then yes the housing or the seal etc, BUT if it were stuck shut the interior heater would have been very hot not cold !?

If it had been stuck open the engine would have taken ages to walm up but the heated would have got hot eventually .

As for the Tdci dual mass flywheel , whats the problem they usuall last for ages 80k plus , except when white van man gets hold of them !!!!.
You can convert them to a solid flywheel / sprung clutch at the cost of extra engine vibration (thats what the dual mas removes engine vibrations !) but luk do a combined kit clutch & dual mas kit thats quite reasonable .

                      good luck x Rachel.

The thermostat can cause weird symptoms with air locks and lack of coolant flow. And can cause cold air if fails to open.

The thermostat can fail if subjected to extreme temps.

I would be checking for an underlying problem, such as waterpump or a coolant blockage, or heater matrix problem.
                        :cheers2:

Well the thermostat hasnt solved the issue :(

Im sure its an airlock but there is no where to bleed the system.

Once the engine has got up to temp (needle in the middle) the hot air isnt really as hot as it used to be. After 20 mins, the hot air gets cold.

Now, if I go down a hill and 'coast' in 5th all the way down, the temp needle drops a a quarter of the way down, the air gets hot and the engine gets back up to temp?!

Ok going totally from memory here ( so don't slate me !!!!) but isn't the waterpump driven off the rear of one of the camshafts ???? by a flat belt ???? I haven't got a TDCi here to check .
If so is that belt ok in otherwords is the pump turning ?????????
                                just a thought ...............
