Also check your oil level is correct, if like mine it's about 3" above normal on the dipstick your coolant may be going in the sump ;)
them tdci mondeo's are shite, just wait until you start having problems with the clutch, dual mass fly wheel and turbo actuator thingy. my dads got 1 and had nothing but trouble with his.
Thats helpfull but sooooo true,........................

The 2.0 Tdci with the electronic turbo actuator can be a Right :piggy:

As for coolant loss dont overheat it thats BAD !!!!!

Check the Radiator , thermostat housing , and the heat exchanger cooling pipes by the oil filter (center front of engine) look for red furry deposits or stains thats where the leak will be.

      hope this helps.

Oil looks good, with no milky residue on the cap.

My Mondeo has been quality, and when it goes ill definitely be getting another one. In the last 30k (now on 120k) I have bought one nearside spring and a subframe bush.

        ..touchwood it stays that way.

Go to Ford Mondeo Mk3 (2000 - 2007) - TalkFord.com I'm so sad that it's my other main forum read!

Most of the likely issues have been covered but, luckily, head gasket failures are very rare. I've read of a few cases where the oil cooler has gone porous and leaked coolant into the oil, also there are the occasional failure of the waterpump impeller, but this wouldn't cause coolant loss. The main complaint in the diesel section of the forum is engines overcooling and not getting up to temperature very quickly, if at all, overheating & coolant loss is unusual.

We've got two and they are great cars, not as unreliable as people would may you believe (Ford have sold a lot of TDCi's) and most parts are very reasonable, just not the clutch or fuel injection system but for around £30 you can buy a diagnostic lead & software that will let you read & clear faults plus program injectors.

Don't use radweld will cause yourself more problems in the future.
Might be worth checking the heater matrix. check carpets are not soaked through on either side of centre dash console (I know this will be hard with the snow and water from you feet) but you should smell anti freeze if this is the problem they can sometimes be a weak link in the coolant system easily blocked and very small. (like a minature radiator).

Core plugs are only usually really a problem on petrol (zetec) models and we are having a lot of those in at the moment. you can check by taking no 1 and 4 ht lead off look down the hole and if they are full of coolant core plugs are the fault. PETROL MODELS ONLY though guys lol.

Diesel core plugs are dotted all around the cylinder head and if leaking as mentioned before you should see a pink furr around the area. also if its got a plastic thermostat housing these can have small hairline cracks which only appear when up to temp.

..but just made it into work today after the car started loosing power and started to overheat.

I let it cool down for a couple of minutes, then drove it for a couple of minutes (untill the temp needle started to move again), and repeated this all the way to work :svengo:

                          :cheers2:
Sounds very much like head gasket to me, what with the loss of power, and the heater going cold sounds like the heater is filling up with exhaust gasses :(

you can try a thermostat but think its too late :ack2:
                          Cheers Paul
