  • It was such a lovely day - I couldn't resist a few flights - here is a keychain vid - bit shaky because I forgot to tighten the strap - still the weather makes up for it. I just wish it was like this all the time.....

I also managed to maiden the 500 Airwolf today as well - there will be a separate thread for that later if you are interested!

    Cheers,
    Simon

      • An interesting fact that many people don't know; The Vario R22 is so big it is actually larger than the full scale helicopter! :-)

        • Went out yesterday with the 700 and A109/Trex500. Not a good day. Blew the piston on the engine in the 700 and broke one ot the retract arms in the A109 Cannot do much about them as I'm away on business for a few weeks.

          • Yesterday was great, once the mist/fog had burnt off. I had 2 flights with the 450, 4 with the 600, and 5 with the Wot4 plank. I'm doing more transitions to nose-in flying, being more comfortable now with the 600. I also passed my Fixed-wing A cert. So, yes it was a good day for me!!

I witnessed the big moment - I must say Mike was looking rather proud of himself

Big thanks to Mike and Basingstoke model club for letting me fly at their club field as a guest! Was an excellent day.

Got some nice aerial shots of the field, Mike. Will send once I edit it a bit.

                cheers

                  • flew the 250 fbl this morning as i forgot to charge some batts for the fusion50 ,
i fitted a beastx in the 250 last night and i have to say it was a different little heli was fast and very agile and flipped and rolled well flew great inverted and then the little collar on the main shaft slipped and the 250 fell back to earth with a bump and did the main gear ;0(
just as i was starting to enjoy it LOL

                    • yup another crack at flying again, for an hour today. Took the mower too to tart up the heli pad in the field.

Anyway had an enforced AUTO on the 500. Tick tocks then sudden lack power and head speed - levelled out and left the collective at slightly neggy or zero pitch as I thought the lipo had emptied out and I knew it would be curtains if I added any positive pitch, which would of bogged the sucker down.

Near to the grass but far away I flared it up and PLOP gentle landing. Result!

Turned out to be the Motor Pinion was slipping on the motor shaft. Warm Weather or just me giving it more rooty toot I guess? Anyway loctited it back on for another flight. Happy days!

I think I will file a flat on the scorpion motor shaft to get some extra bite on that pinion grub screw. I don't know why they dont add a flat as standard on the Scorpion motor shafts?

Then 2 flights on the 450pro with new KBDD paddles - Brilliant! nice, smooth and inverted fig o eights in the sunshine lovely!

                      • Another lunchtime session today.

Cut short a bit. Broke one of the landing skid legs on the first lipo but figured I'd keep going. I think it must have weakened in Tuesdays crash. After the second pack I decided to not risk any more for now, had a couple of close calls on landing with the heli tipping as the skid started to twist, I corrected with a bit of cyclic while spooling down both times but decided to be safe.

I'd been struggling with getting the tail to hold properly though since my rebuild, but figured it was just me and I'd been ruffled by the failure before. But the heli was turning a lot more on spool up and doing weird things in flight. Anyway it turns out the tail shaft is bent. Dunno how that has happened, either it was bent from new or it got bent in the flight case.

My second pack was really a good boost to confidence though. As I was having trouble with the tail I just hovered tail in, and worked on keeping position and height. And I was doing it !!

Oh and I flew the mCP-x too. 100% DR and 20% expo today, felt nice.

I was thinking how big that was! :O How do you get one of those to the field!

Its again lovely weather today and aint managed to fly due to sorting problems out with the Nitros, so getting fed up.. I took the 500 out after going FBL on it.. 3packs and i'm still amazed how it shifts. I have a new confidence with it now, stringing together alot of moves.. and its weird as the same thing happened on the 600 all because of the Beastx

                            • A day of mixed fortunes.. I've been battling with my oS55 doing weird stuff and Squeaky and I couldn;t quite solve followed by me landign a bit heavy last week... so I'd replaced the slightly worn clutch stack with new bearings, the cracked bottom frame and reset everything ..richened it up a couple fo clicks and the first two flights were fine..then third flight the engine started thesame nonsense again.. started overspeeding, reduced smoke and it's just penetrated my brain and I've got my hand on the cut switch when the piston popped <sigh>... trouble is that I'm reluctant to rebuild it if it has a carb problem (and that was dismantled and flushed with carb cleaner last week). I'm losing count of how many engines my 600 has had now...

So then it was a flight with the blitz.. as superb as ever but I take it easy with that.

Followed by loads of fun on my 450 clone until I pushed it a tad too much on a low high speed inverted circuit and lost it on the bend...huge crunch into the ground but the only damage seems to be a broken HK blade, 2 sheered screws and the motor jarred so the pinion mesh needs re-doing <result!>

Gordon (plank flier) had a go with my other 450 and stripped a TT gear catching the tail.. but it was his first heli attempt

                                Lovely day though
