  • Away again with work - no flying for me this week. But NO! The rep guy here in Helsinki who's looking after me and chauffering me about is heavily into RC modelling and has a private pilots licence too . OK lets finish work early and go flying - yup agreed!

    Back to his place to pick up some models and then down to the sea (frozen) for some flying with a couple of Depron foamies on the ice. Sadly no heli flying as both his 450's were not ready one being a 450 with a HK $20.00 5 bladed head and Hughes 500 body.

      • What a show off!! traveling all the way to Finland for a Flying sesh. I'd love to do a sliding finish from an auto along that ice. So did he let you fly one of his Foamies?

          Yes mate had a fly on the foarmies until my fingers were froozen up.

          Later it was back to the hanger for a poke around the full size stuff that he flies. Nice Extra300 and Cap232 parked up inside too.
          Also had a bash on a Flight Simulator there - pulled a few loops and inverted flight (had to be done) - great fun!

          • Nice day - sunshine - some charged lipos - the field was calling me - so it had to be done ---- yeah!

            Actually managed to fly my 500 fbl and my 550 fbl -for about half an hour, lovely. The 550 is a dream it really inspires confidence. The 500 did have a small mishap which resulted in a stripped umbrella gear, but it was worth it.

            However there was one casualty - I tried my jetiger delta wing for the first time.... it didn't go too well. I've never flown one before so I launched it a bit too slowly, it nose dived and broke the nose off It was quite funny to watch with bits of foam spread about lol. No problem though, just a bit of mitre glue (thanks Kol for the tip) and she will be ready for another smash!

            It was great to get out and actually fly.

            • Maiden setup hover in the garden with the fusion50 went perfect:0) v-bar showed no vibes , tail was locked in with good stops , cyclic felt good:0) just charging up ready for Saturday now well chuffed and can't wait ;0)

              • Yup I flew today............ also reduced my lovely X5 to spare parts!

                Practicing morphing transitions resulted in loss of orientation and a swift meeting with terra-firma. TBH it looked pretty much like I crashed on Phoenix SIM - parts went flying everywhere!!!!!

                Broke/cracked/bent the motor and servo mounts, airframes cracked, bent motor spindle the list goes on and on. Oh and the ball bearings popped out of their races on the mainshaft due to the force and compression when I turned it into a lawn dart! Gonna strip it down at some stage to see what is still usable but looks very much like I am gonna have to buy a new X5 kit.

                On a good note, the TDR was on top form, really glad I did not stuff that in!!!!!!!

                • Ouch! Poor X5 That's a drag.

                  Today I had my very first flybarless flights. I took out the GL450 with recently installed Beast X. So far it has a ways to go yet before it will be a 'keeper', at least on this heli. I was able to fly it OK and everything but it still needs some tweaking to get it really right.

                  On the other hand my Trex 450 SE (flybarred), is now flying excellently! I am very pleased. The last little thing that made the difference is programming in a mix to tune out a tiny bit of unwanted aileron that was creeping in when applying up elevator. It now flies very straight and I have the feel of the flybar and everything nearly perfect. So it was a good day in general and we'll see what can be done yet on the Beast X as I have not adjusted any of the pots etc.

                    • ..did a couple of tanks on the 600...but it was still cold on the hill even without much wind... then during third tank and trying soem aileron ticktocks and engine almost cut..then recovered... repeated another 'tick' and ame again... tried on to the other side (just to see).. and yet again...

                      I found a tiny hole in the main tank clunk line ..but the header stayed full throughout...so will be interesting to see if clunk line changes have solved it..

                        • Seven flights today with the Outrage 550. The last three saw my first real inverted hovers. Whoohoo!

                          • Yep, Had a sesh with Laurence & Higgsy09. I had a go on Laurences 600 but i was very carefull as his rudd has a lot less expo so all i done was some VERY gentle flying. Higgsy crashed his 450, something odd happened & it went in. He flew his Trex 600N & i find the smell of optifuel horrible. Laurence crashed his 450 but it flew again & i crashed my Gaui 200 coz Laurence said "Go on, try a piro flip with it". Laurence had a go on my Logo 500 & upped the Rudd ep by 5% & maxed out my cyclic as he said it was too slow & not helping me with my piro flips as my disc wasn't getting level. I tried the new settings & what a difference. They were smoother & i had more consitency.
                            Yes the big sigpic is coming back

                            • yep i did put the 450 in, not stripped it out yet, doesnt look too serious but i am a little concerned as to why it went in!.... Opti smells nice lol nice to meet you today, nice flying from you two.... shame the skyline was very overcast, shame i couldnt stay longer.
