    • Finally, after nearly 6 months, I can say yes I did fly today. However, it was very scary! Scary for two reasons, one obviously from not having flown in the longest stretch since I started the hobby. And two because this is a field above and behind my flat that is about ten stories up from the ground level where my flat is and there are trees on either side so space is a bit limited. I was so nervous due to the unfamiliar space and worrying about where the trees are etc. So I just did one flight and that was enough for now. Taking off and landing was a challenge as the grass and brush is quite thick and the whole area is on an incline, all together a strange experience. (the first two pics are in the flying area, the third one is down by the edge for a sense of scale as it's on a hill and then my flat is also on a hill so it's way up above the valley floor)

      • Good to see you picked a crappy heli to risk flying in new tight space! Looks like you'll have to take the strimmer with you next time...

          • Indeed! There is a trail that is pretty much flat and matted down but it's too close to the edge. It might be OK for something really small. I felt the Dune or the Beam would be best and the Dune sits just a bit higher off the ground.

Man, I haven't had anything give me the heebee geebees like that in a long time! I suppose I could get used to it if I really wanted to but it's also really tiring to get up there. There are loads of empty playing fields and farms around here so I might be able to find a better place for the quick mid-week flying.

              • Not many attended at sunny MK today as a crowd has gone to Charmouth.

It was sunny, as usual and somewhat breezy this morning but the wind dropped a little during the afternoon.
I had four with the 700, three with the 600 and two with the 450. All successful flights, helis intact.

                • Wow it's quiet in here! I guess everyone is at Charmouth and I'm sure it's great down there.

Here in Dover it was warm (ish), sunny, low wind, so what could go wrong? ... fog! An otherwise beautiful day and most of the time we're waiting for the fog to blow over. I did get in one flight and really enjoyed it. A couple times I had to bring it in close due to visibility. It was the strangest thing to go from bright and sunny to thick and I mean thick white dense fog that rolled in from the channel. Can't complain though, everything worked, the Raptor flew great and I felt so energised after having been away from flying for so long.

Yep, they're great in that regard. The only thing is, I find that I generally get punished for not running the engine in so long, it took me a while to get it started the first time. I think it just didn't have enough fuel down into the engine, but I have also made the mistake in the past of over doing it and getting too much fuel in there by using the choke too long.

In any case once it started it ran great and flew perfectly. It's really a joy to fly, just bang on the money. I love the inertia you get from (nearly) 6kg of mass - you can get such graceful smoothness that compensates from my lack of perfect collective management. It's a great heli for coming back after such a long break because it made me look like I still know what I'm doing.

                          • Half a dozen of us today at sunny (as usual) MK. It was good to watch Duncan O doing a bit of testing.

The weather was fantastic, almost no wind and not cold. I had 7 good flights and no crashes.

                            • Took the X3 and my little micro HiSky heli to the field. That's the second week in a row for the X3.

I think I'm falling a little out of love with the X3 though, and it might be time to get rid. My 6 year old Trex 500 ESP flies better in every single way and I'm not sure I want anything smaller any more.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.
