Did YOU fly today??

Not flying yet since my house move but last night I got out the TX and simmed a bit. That's the first time I have even thought about flying in about a month!

Seven flights today on top of four yesterday. Conditions here were very good not a breath of wind and not too cold. The only problem is 'up north' the light level even at midday is a bit low at this time of the year which can make orientation tricky at times. Bugger all that I can do about it so it's just something I have to live with.

Went up the field this afternoon for a few flights. Took the 2 Proti with me and managed to biff the 500 on the first flight! Saw a video, got inspired, tried new things....then ran out of skill!!

The funny thing was I crashed immediately after picking up the bits of a crashed trex 500 dominator that one of our other members just crashed!

A great session at the field this morning with the guys, no wind but no sun either! The fog wasn't to bad and did lift but the sky was horrible for the first hour or so.

Got 5 flights on the 600L, 4 on the 450L, and 1 on the F550

A bit of a mixed day today, i thought today i would have a look at some tuning in the gpro, with the goblin build coming up, i really need to understand a little more the ins and outs. The plan was to increase the roll rate on the 600L, and increase the rudder speed on the 450L. So took the laptop and cable to the field, no one there i thought great.

Went to plug in the gpro and my laptop would not pick it up, i think i picked up a faulty cable. Nothing major but it was enough to take the shine off flying today! i couldnt shake it!

So got going with some loops and more stall turns. Pretty rubbish. couldnt get into the groove and was not really enjoying it. One small good thing is i got it at the top of the loop inverted again, but this time managed to keep the nose down and travel a bit forward inverted. Prob managed about 30m or so. Again its flying itself really. i tried to correct a few drifts and was not doing bad. Got to the end and want to complete the other half of the loop and bring it back down, but had a total brain failure and pushed the elevator forward insteal of back. So the heli went up and righted itself, so it looked like a giant S. After that i thought maybe i was getting a little cocky from getting the first loops and stall turns done last week, and need to slow it down.

Then decided to have a cuppa as it was getting cold. Got my little gas burner out and spilt some water right on the ignitor. Couldnt get it started after that lol! No tea

By the 4th pack i thought just work on some nose in hovering which is always valuable. 5th pack i did some close and relatively low circuits and turns. Approx 2m from the ground (helps to keep me honest). By the end of that pack i was feeling better, enjoying it.

Pulled the 450L out and got going with that, same again some turns and circuits, also a few stall turns. Got back on the loops again. The start of my loops are ok, the first quarter. then it goes from a nice arc to the heli just rotating on the spot. Not sure what i am doing. i suspect maybe not enough collective (or pulling negative too quick) and too fast on the elevator.

Then a quick go on the F550, a blast around without too much brain work! A couple of the lads had came down by then so had a good chin wag.

If you brought them all back in one piece it was a good day in my book. For the roll rate, I've not used the Gpro but i believe that the software interface is very Vstabi like. In Vstabi the roll and flip rate is adjusted with the 'Agility' slider, so if you have anything called 'agility' under the main rotor setup try increasing it's value.

There are two parameters for the head i think are of concern for this, one is flight response and the other flight agility. My understand is the response one is how fast the heli responds to my commands, and agility is the roll and flip.

Do you expect any of the gains needing to be changed by adjusting these?

Agility is the one that will change the roll rate.

'Response' is probably the equivalent to Vstabi's 'Flight Style' parameter. This is what Mikado say about flight style:

The more the value is moved up, the more the heli behaves robotic. The more it is moved down, the more it gets vivid

I'm not entirely sure that 'vivid' is the right word, I suspect something is lost in translation from German. I believe lower values produce a more fluid smooth response, higher more immediate and mechanical.

Neither setting will effect gain.

5 flights in this morning on the 600L. Wind was bit vicious. But good for practicing collective management in the turns into and out of the wind. So plenty of circuits, a few stall turns and 2 loops, holding at the top.

Also up'ed the flight agility on the gpro. it was on 60, which is a beginner setting. Default is 80 which is mid point on the slider. I set it to 70, with the view in another 10 or so flights up it to 80.

Cant really say i felt much difference, but the wind made it not a conclusive test.
