  • Oh yes! Finally managed to fly a few consistent circuits maintaining height and speed. A big deal for me. Love the Synergy N5C so smooth and reliable.
My best year to date I actually feel like an RC model helicopter pilot!🤗

If you can do circuits tidily, you can pass the A. The little bit of tail in hovering and the lazy 8's are comparatively easy. You just have to mug up the safety guidelines including SWEETS and SMART.

Thanks for the encouragement Mike, it would be nice to fly with you sometime seeing as how you are only down the road? Something else to plan for 2017!

Have a great Christmas and New Year, happy landings in 2017👍

                  • Last flight last pack the other day after shutting down the blades slowed and stopped noticeably quicker. anyways quick inspection before packing up i could see the motor turning when rotating the blades in either direction, so it was obvious the OWB had gone tight.

Got home and stripped it out and looked fine but a bit dry, so re-greased and put back together.

Got 5 flights in today on the 600. OWB issue has gone.

First 3 flights were good, tried holding the heli at the top of the loop for a few seconds inverted. There was next to no wind so it was not getting pushed around. Longest one was about 5 seconds. Which is excellent for me.

I also tried what i guess is a half roll? brought it round for a loop, stopped at the top of the loop and gave a bean full of aleron. It was quite difficult to be honest, it was quite high and as i had not seen my own heli at that angle i found it hard to see when it was all the way up right and to come off the aleron. Also the heli didnt roll quite as fast as i had wanted, thinking for the first one try and get thru the roll as fast as poss. Will have to have a look at the gpro and see what needs changing for that. Any advice would be appreciated.

After the 3rd pack a few guys rocked up, and my flying turned to crap!

When coming into land, as it gets close i usually knock out of IU1, square it up and pop it down, anyways at the end of the 4th flight was coming in, tail in towards me around 3 to 4 metres up, and hit throttle hold instead of flight mode. FFS

Fortunatly i had just cleared the rough stuff by about 1/2 a metre, it bounced once on the skids and nearly tipped over, but managed to keep it up right.

5th flight thought lets not get cocky and work on the lazy 8's.

I have done that a couple of times. One of them was a bit expensive.

Since then I have enabled the auto rotation bailout on my Castle esc's. I hope that that will enable me to recover but I dare not try it out yet.

Do you have your flight mode and TH switches on opposite side of the TX?.. If not that's how I'd recommend it.

PS.. The half loop with a half roll off the top has a name. It's called an Immelmann turn after WWI German fighter pilot Max Immelmann.

                          Ha! easy done i guess.

I also have got the bail out setup, but also not ever tried it! I am a bit paranoid for my tail gears!

Because i have not used it, its not in my 'oh s**t' level of thinking, as i was not immediately thinking what i had done. Also as it was so low i just got back on the sticks. Lucky tho! I would of been really annoyed to of tipped it over by hitting the wrong switch

                            Hey Grumpy

I have both flight mode and hold on the top left of my 14sg, switches SF and SE. I did think after i had landed how easily i had made the mistake. So i may well move it i think.

A really good guy on here let me see his black nitro the other day, and during the flight he showed me the rescue function. I was quite impressed with it after not seing one before. Anyways he has that on switch SF on his 14sg. I thought it was a good idea to have it on a momentary switch. So when i complete the goblin thats where i will have that. So the only logical thing then i think is to leave hold where it is, have rescue on the other side, and move the flight mode switch to one of the ones on the front at the top?

How have you got all your switches set?

On my 14SG I have flight mode on the left on SA, throttle hold on top right at SG, I use SF top left for Heading Hold/Rate Mode on the Gyro, and SH on top right for Rescue. It sort of works for me, but once, just once, I hit throttle hold instead of rescue, which put my X50E in the long grass. Never did it again though.

                              • I'm flying with a Spektrum DX18 but switch layout is identical to the 14SG. I have TH on the top-right rearmost 'long handle' switch. Flight mode is on the top-left shorthandle switch, and rescue (on the helis that have it) is on the long handle switch behind flightmode. I also converted the switch that i use for rescue to memetary to avoid it being left in the rescue position (gets interesting if you spool up with rescue activated!).

This way TH is all on it's own, I've got no reason to go anywhere near the switch unless I want to use it. Having TH close to any other switch that's in use is just an accident waiting to happen, and it won't wait long. Take your lucky escape as a warning and get TH moved would be my advice.
