  • Well, both helis are ruined at the moment but I had the picojet out. I'm really impressed with it, I was using rcspeedo to clock how fast it was going and my previous best was 65mph in bad weather.

Today I managed to crack 100mph on a steep dive pass!!!!! Well impressed!

It's just a matter of the frames being a few mm narrower than the Trex700e and the result being that some packs fit fine and others are a real struggle. When I first got it my inclination was to strap the Lipos onto the tray and then slide the tray in. The problem I found imediately is that even with Lipos that will fit, they won't fit when you include the width of the straps. When I went to one of the F3C comps last year I saw that most of the guys seemed to be leaving the tray in the frames and just fishing the Lipos in and strapping them down, so that's what I've been doing now.

I have a pair of 4000mah Gens Aces that fit real easily but the Turnigy 5000mah 30-40C packs almost don't fit at all and it's very fiddly. I had stuck a few pairs together with some sticky vinyl in the hope that it would be easier but the 30-40Cs, where the balance wires stick out just won't go and they got stuck and then I couldn't get them out and in my mind I'm thinking "screw this, I'm selling this F ing thing and getting something else that is designed better". But, upon reflection, if I can just work with it in a Zen-like manner, perhaps meditate on it for a while, I might reach enlightenment. We shall see. I think it flies pretty good, I'm not bowled over or anything. I like the way it looks but I need a really good solution to this LiPo changing issue or it's gonna have to go because I just cannot be struggling and sweating to do something that should be effortless with a good design (think Logo Xxtreme for example).

      • Did YOU fly today??

Had a great day with the 450 and 550
Had a couple (Oooops) moments with the 450 but no crashes somehow

And two pretty tame flights with the 550
Felt a bit rusty if I'm honest

Hopefully be a bit braver with it next time

The 130x was being a tart and the servos need a good clean but to be fair it's had loads of flights with nothing other than tail gears after a whack so I'm not complaining

        • Yesterday, was a setup day for me:

3 x TDR test hovers - horrible and alarming tilt to the left on spool up, so no flight
1 x GAUI425 test hover (new tail servo, and thought I'd overhaul my head setup using the lessons learnt from setting up the vbar) - much better
1 x N5 flight, old faithful, none of this flybarless nonsense, it just works

I've come to the conclusion that new fancy kit isn't going to make me fly any better: if I could fly as well as the big boys did with the stuff I've got then perhaps. It's all relatvely worthless secondhand so may as well fly it until spares can't be got...

My patience with electric in general is limited, the last thing I'm going to do is throw more money at a problem that shouldn't be a problem. So I'll be giving it another look and see what I can do to remedy the situation.

Before the Rave came along my plan had been to convert a Robbe Milli to electric and the lower frames on the Milli have so much room it just wouldn't be any effort at all. I have so many Robbe spares and they fly so well that it makes good sense to just go back to that project if I decided the Rave won't work for me. Either that or just get out of the .90 size electric genre for now and fly nitro for the big stuff.

Sheryl, the battery loading issue was my main issue with the rave. I found the front pack ok but the rear an absolute pita. Shame the ballistic tray system will not fit

Isn't there a way you could make a stick pack of some kind to load into the Heli? Like some plastic plates the lipos are taped to ready for use?

That is what I use on my Goblin 700. Works a treat. But 5000mah packs that are puffing a little are a struggle to get in and out.
Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

Yeah I did that with a couple pairs and the 20-30C Turnigy's fit OK but the 30-40C packs are a couple mm wider and with the just the added width of the material holding them together it's too much and then they started snagging on a couple bolt heads (which I can improve using low profile rounded head bolts) and then the edge of one of the frame bits cut into one of the wires, it was just a real nasty mess that had me really ****ed off.

I just need to look at the whole situation and re-think it, maybe situate the ESC differently so the wires reach in a different place, perhaps raise the tray a bit so there's more room underneath the Lipos (which is generally good as it raises the C of G as well) etc. etc.

                      • Nope, no flying. I flew this week though....a very brief flight with my Sabre until it crashed into the fence . Today so far I've polished my slabby then gazed lovingly at it's shininess whilst eating a banana.

Thought I would start flying again after having a 6 week break. Was chucking the 130x around till it went hard in and broke the boom lol hovered the goblin and noticed the governor wasn't working and couldn't think why. So didn't get to fly it today. Got home and remembered I didn't reprogram the kosmik when I updated the firmware Lol all sorted now.
