For Sale Section ??

I am a member of various forums and they all suffered from moderation or when conversations started to hit the fan and moderation was increased. as for the for sale section, I think since I have started it seems people have extremely geared up and the members on here usually tend to have the latest and greatest already or prices by some members who want quick sales and dont mind losses impact what other people believe to be adequate. this especially seems to differ completely to bmfa - I had a package on here for a heli for 3 or 4 days - one request to pretty much throw it out and it sold on bmfa within 20 minutes for the same price as it was a well worth deal as I wanted a quick sale as well ... anyway ... since the 3 posts max or whatever the guys who constantly added their parts dont get the chance to post as much hence overall less posts I'd say ...

the forum was a valuable source when I started but now majority of the time its about who got on which team, look what I got, happy birthday posts and the occasional newbie question but the interesting posts have somehow vanished for me ... compared to the other forums I visit which seem to be more technical or exchanging conversations which makes it worth reading but I admit not posting as I cant contribute to the conversation ... maybe its the same here that some just cant contribute and other refuse to contribute ...

I dont mind the banter but it feels like its the same people anyway I tend to speak to people directly via PM or even give them a call these days ... as I dont do facebook I cant compare it but I doubt I miss out on something.

Thing about the forum its about everyone while FB is about individuals. There are not any controls on fb so you can say what you like and its likely not to be challenged if its having a pop at someone while on here it will.

As for tapatalk there was no discussion about it because it was my decision to make no one else is responsible for server security.

You can have your tapatalk back if you sign up to accept the liability for loss of sales, data and any other consequential costs as said there is more than just the forum at stake.

The dynamics of the forum is changing but what facebook can not give you is a place that can be a single source of support and information that is fully searchable. Only forums achieve this and im happy to focus on making it better for all not a small few....

Sev +1 on bmfa sales. for some reason people think a item going cheap sets the price for future similar items. is it such a bad thing to wish someone happy Birthday its just a nice gesture.

the 3no max ads, is better because your ad stays on main page for longer. as many don't use the search tab.

Tapatalk,, I miss it and it was my main way of viewing the forum, in bad 3g signal area's I've even been know on site to go and sit on the scaffold or on a roof to get signal just to get my tea break fix.
But if there are security issues obviously these have to come first, don't want another Sony playstaion hack....

I preferred it as it was 2 or 3 years ago, I always go to the for sale section via the forum link and scroll down through the pages just in case I missed something from last week that has not been bumped again..
I even found an add in "swap" that was about 4 months old and still did a deal.. you have to click through pages on BMFA to get to the section you want..
why do news papers have more than a front cover? people open and read what's inside, are members on here to lazy to open the cover to view pages to look at adds...

Me personaly rarely use the forum anymore there hasnt been much if anything of interest to me on here in years.... if your not flying the latest and greatest people ignore you

I fly old stuff.........I mean FFS I have no FBL heli at all.................but that doesn't worry me. I have to say though it is one reason I don't like clubs as flying the old kites is a bit demeaning in clubs.

I will gladly help others when I can but my knowledge/ability level is such that this doesn't occur very often !!

Sometimes it needs someone who is in the "same" boat.

Probably because they are sick of getting shot down by Mr Know it alls unfortunately..

I hadn't noticed any of that happening, maybe I don't realise it is going on.


I remember the days when there was no internet. It has liberated me in terms of hobbies and forums are essential.

I always go to the for sale section via the forum link and scroll down through the pages just in case I missed something from last week that has not been bumped again.

I am the opposite; the for sale section is low priority - I spend enough as it is without looking for more - so I go to new posts first then if I want something in particular such as an AR7000 that I am after right now I look at the for sale section. Then I go to ebay and a lot of the time find it cheaper. Then I go to HK then online generally and find mixed prices in sites like Gumtree and so on.

It's like Argos really, I find it better to search with a PC and search engine than read a catalogue.

The PS hack made me very shy of online sites particularly those that don't have the padlock symbol and lots of heli seller sites do not!!

I am using this site a lot less now Tapatalk has gone, which is a shame. I hope a better solution is out soon.

Re. Facebook, the best thing about it that you can self moderate. You can block the nobheads so you don't even see what they post and vice versa. Would be great if you could do that on here

You can do the same on here but I can go one further and remove the block that says its there, the only problem you have is if someone quotes a post from a ignored member the you will see the quoted content.

But unlike FB you can quote peoples posts on here while on facebook you can't.

Facebook is full of noise its not built around sharing knowledge and helping others its more to do with look at me.....

Which is fine many people want to spout off what they have done, just got or just seen.

But rarely do you see its about others helping others that's where RcHeliAddicts and other forums win in my book we have donated and helped loads of fellow flyers and collectively worked together to help each other.

We are all at heart generally a good bunch but some odd apples and ego's are bound to happen in any community not just ours.

I realise site speed for some mobiles whilst there isn't a dedicated app will give some frustrations and what I can say is if you are prepared to work and help others on the forum send me a PM and I will turn off ALL display ads from your online experience until such time as we have our own APP. This should help remove a large chunk of the server calls and make it quicker.

I use the 'New Posts' button so I see every new post title wherever it happens to be and allowing people to post each item separately let's me easily see every item as it comes up for sale.

Agree or not Mark it allows each member the chance to get his advert seen,instead of being wiped of the front page for 48hrs by guys posting 10+ adverts in a row immediately after him/her posting.It also stops the forsale section taking over and impacting the new posts page as it has in the past.The aim being to get us back on track towards a knowledge resource not a trading site,which it was becoming.
As for reducing the visibility of what people have for sale,then surely a little thought put into titling their thread should help?

I was once on a gun forum where it was all about showing off and I hated it.
On a modest income I/we have to do what we can with our budget and for me there is no greater turn off than watching braggarts and I mean the purely materialistic ones; those who have done something which is not all about dollars or GBP are much more interesting.
