  • Advice Please

Ok im a 19yr old guy from newcastle and i recently received 2 heli's for christmas , the 1st a 2ch nano apache for indoors very small and great fun , the 2nd a 4channel coaxial apache ah64 , this was going great and i picked up flying the 4channel very fast , by boxing day eveing i could navigate the helicopter around my living room very well , they day after (the 26th) was very calm outside so i flew the copter outside with no problems at all. from then on i was busy up untill last monday (the 7th) when i took the copter outside again for another busy flight. it was going absolutely fantastic , no crashing no trouble hovering just a great practice flight at a height of around 12 feet.....however the batteries started to run low and i landed the helli about 30 feet from me . 2 men picked up the helli and approached me shouting "is this yours" me thinking they were saving me the walk replied "yes thanks for picking it up for me" they immediately assaulted me to get the radio gear and now im suffering from a fractured cheek bone , lots of bruising and concussion. The ordeal was in my local paper for 2 nights running trying to trace the asailants. the only upside to this is the fact im going to receive around 4 grand in compensation. I visited my local model stores to ask them to keep a record of anyone who comes in looking for a apache lipo battery charger and the store i bought the heli from has offered me a Raptor 30V2 Nitro with everything i need including a £300 futuba hand set for £500 , hes offering me a massive discount becuase of my ordeal and has said it's cause he doesnt want me to give up on the hobbey before i had a chance to start.

Now although there is a massive discount involved its still a big wad of cash , i need advice on making this purchase. Basically if its worth my while making such a big jump from my 4 ch apache to something this advanced. Or if theres something i can buy at the same time as the Raptor to practice with some more before flying my raptor.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as i really dont want to give up on flying already =(

1st: What a bloody world we live in now... Sorry about the cowardly attack you got served on you.

2nd: Hats off to the local hobby shop for such a generous offer to help you stay in the game..

Now there are lots of options to spend your £500 on, Would you like to go down the nitro route or the cleaner electric route.. The choice is yours but!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would certainly make my first purchase a Phoenix Simulator to "really" learn how to fly these awesome machines, Its been quoted to every beginner that you really need to spend days & days practicing on a sim that works in the same manner as a real heli.

Crashing the sim costs nothing, Crashing a full size heli will eat your money really quick.

Good luck and don't be afraid to ask any questions in your quest to fly helicopters.

im not sure about electric or nitro buster boy i just want one that i can fly around normally when im in the mood and really go crazy with it when im in the mood for that too, im not bothered about the noise or mess nitro creates i just want a decent helli i can enjoy building , admiring and flying alike, im already ordering a simulator but i want to order one that simulates whatever heli i decide on , any suggestions about the Raptor V2 would be great or maybe another helli?

roughly the 450 is about 600mm long and the the .30 is about 1100mm long ie the .30 is huge and you really need to join a club because you cant just take em down the park!! as other posts say you wouldnt go wrong with a sim!!

                  have a look around

500 notes is top dollar for that model. and a 300 quid radio although nice is not required ( if thats for the transmitter only )

The Raptor 30V2 or the 50V2 are both sterling helis mate and you won't go far wrong with either.

Don't be in too much of a rush to spend your cash until you know for certain which route you are going to take.

As for the Simulator there are one or two thats really good but the Phoenix is by far the best IMO because you get free updates and can even request a Raptor helicopter to fly if you want.

At just under £80 its loads of fun and you can even fly in sessions online with other pilots learning the game.

As for the building of a heli, Yes its very rewarding when you finally see it on its maiden flight after all the hours you spent building it (another reason you need to learn to fly first). It would break your heart to see it smash into the ground because you couldnt be bothered to learn to fly it first.

Keep the questions coming mate, There is a host of very helpful people on this site always willing to help.

Ok mate ill definately invest in the software you reccomend, i think i want to go down the nitro route as they seem to be quicker and more responsive , is this entirely true?
