I'd not worry then, you will definitely improve.

So far I'm still minus my Raptor 30 The seller has not appeared again so the sale is on hold until I get a chance to speak with him.

I'm looking at other options now and if I was to buy new would I be better to spend the cash on a Raptor 30 package inc 2.4GHz tx or a Trex 450 SE v2 also with 2.4GHz tx? Both are a very similar cost with everything I need. Which route would be best, electric or nitro?

        Thanks

I'd guess the Electric/nitro debate is on which route you WANT to go down. I don't know enough about them to speak flight or mechanically, but surely (someone correct me if I'm wrong) and electric heli is cheaper in the long run? No fuel to buy.

As to getting better, believe me I know it feels like you aren't, but even my family has noticed the difference in how I fly now, so have I, flew my Chinook at the w/end and even though it has a bent shaft and was flying like rubbish I could still keep it off the walls for a good 10 minutes. Before I would have destroyed it several times over. It's all about practice.

CX on sims is not like the real thing at all, I found my CX2 to be far more responsive than on Phoenix, work on getting her to hover in more or less one place, don't even think about anything fancy. And if you have a camera, try to capture your flights, then play them back later on in your flying career, you'll see for yourself just how you've improved.

            Thanks for the comments

I have decided to buy a Raptor 30 V2 and these are the items I have added to my list:

            Raptor 30 V2 Kit
            OS 37 engine
Spektrum DX7 or DX6i complete with servos and receiver
            GY401 & S9254 Gyro & Servo

Can anyone please recommend any online retailers (or a shop local to Glasgow) who may be able to offer the best price on all of the above? I can't decide between spending more on the DX7 or saving some cash with the DX6i.

            Thanks

              Hi

I use a DX6i with a Raptor 50 V2 and so far am very pleased with it.

I think given the choice the DX7 is the better option but only because it offers a 2nd Idle up and also an additional channel for a governor.

If you want to save money the DX6i would do a great job.

              Cheers

                My final wishlist is:

                Raptor 30 v2
                OS 37 engine
Futaba 7C 2.4 tx inc receiver and servos
                GY401 Gyro & S9254 Servo
                Phoenix Sim

Oddly I notice that the servos that come with the DX7 are listed as not recommended for helicopter use. Discovering that helped to sway me towards the Futaba 7C.

Now I've to decide on the best route for buying all of this as my current budget will mean spreading the cost over 2 months.

Do I buy the kit and engine first then spend time building it together or buy the tx and Phoenix sim so that I can get some home practise in for 4 weeks then buy the remaining items?

I would get the transmitter & phoenix for the reasons you said.

The servos with the 7c are digital & are suitable for heli use i believe? may be wrong there though

The servos with the 7C should be OK, it was the Spektrum DX7 servos that I'd read were not recommended for heli use.

Looking at my budget I may be able to buy the Raptor kit too this week alongside the tx and sim but is it worth starting a build minus the engine? At a push I could possibly buy the engine and that would leave only the gyro and S9254 to buy.

it doesnt really matter, you cant fly without either so you can wait for whatever one. personally i would get the gyro so you can get that set up, then when you get the engine all you have to do is mount the fan and fit it in the airframe.

Edit: have you joined a club yet? knew you were looking just wondered if you had?

Cool so it's easy enough to fit the engine after the heli is built, as a newbie I'm not really sure what's involved in the build?

I'll be joining the club in Cumbernauld as it's a 5 minute drive from my house. Not joined yet but will do when I eventually have a heli to fly

yeah it just slots in under the main mast. There are 4 bolts for attaching it to the frames.

That's good to know. I'll decide what to order when I get paid next week but I now have a new dilemma GY401 or LogicTech 2100T? Both seem to get good reviews, many rating the 2100T as the better of the two but for less cash.

does the logitech come with a dedicated servo?? i use a 401 just now but as my flying progresses that will be changing to spartan ds760

It does not come with a dedicated servo but will work perfectly well with the Futaba. Further reading has led me to believe that the 401 is easier to setup so this may be better for my first heli.
