Hi and thanks for the welcome. Since posting my last question I have bought a pack of Ripmax thread locker (blue) and stud locker (red). I was advised that this would be suitable for my Raptor build by the people at Midland Helicopters when I ordered the bearing upgrade kit from them, both arrived today.

Sneeks just to advise the Red loctite tends to be permanant solution..which is not a good thing generally as our models use small dia nuts/bolts and need to be dismantelled from time to time.

There has only been one occasion where I have found necessary to use Red Loctite and that was on the Main drive Pinion to bearing block on Robbe Millie 2/Dyna-X both 90 size models to prevent the pinion from fretting in the bearing.

As I mentioned above you only need a little..one other benefit of Loctite 243 is it is tolerant of oil contaminated surfaces during assembly where most others need to have clean threads..not that I'm saying clarted in oil..LOL

If your at Cumbernauld tomorrow ask for Barney I should be around..

Nice to have met you Barney, it was a good day.

I was inspired enough today to come home and start my heli build. I've had to skip the main drive gear assembly until I can buy the correct pliers for the snap ring fitments.

The guide I've followed has not been the easiest but I'm getting there

Progress so far , please excuse the dust covered table

Is that a common mistake then?

Thankfully I checked the diagram several times.

I was out most of today so I was only able to make minimal progress.

                        Hi Sneeks,

Good choice on the Raptor 30 as a first heli. Take your time and it will serve you well. Dont know if you have seen this website, but it has a bunch of useful info specifically for the Raptor:

                        http://www.raptortechnique.com/

Hope this helps somewhat in your building and setting up.

                        Rgds

Hi and many thanks for the link Aidi.

Once I have the Raptor fully built it will be checked over by one of the experienced members of the club I am joining before I even attempt to hover it.

All going well so far and tonight I will build the main rotor

Hi Sneeks.. about the U/C yes you have them the correct way in the photo..But..sorry Boggy/Del ..LOL.. I suggest you reverse them (the white part that is )..

Once you can plonk it up and down properly its not a problem but anything that helps keep the tail out of the ground at the start is good. The Rappy does tend to sit tail down and it will likely save you ploughing a furrow with the tail blades..

I'm sure..You can read about that on too...
http://www.raptortechnique.com/ just follow the link that Aidi has pointed you too (re-inserted above)..excellent website BTW
