Talon 90 for my Goblin 500 ? Good ? Bad ? Your views

Hi Guys. I am just about to finish my Goblin 500 and have got a Castle Talon 90 to put in, as recommended. Now, I have been reading about these smoking and catching fire and I am a bit worried. Has anyone had good or bad experiences with this esc. I don't really want to spend more money if I don't have to. I will be doing mostly sport flying, the odd roll, flip and loop. That's as far as my skills go. Nothing high power or hard. got a Quantum 4115 motor with Align DS 515M on the cyclic and Align DS650 on the tail. Also , can I connect this with Castle link and where can I find the settings for this setup with the standard pinion. Thanks very much

I must admit, I was going to order one today to go in my logo400se but the fire stories worry me. The problem is, I can't really justify more than double for a high end esc but almost feel forced to for reliability. Pointless saving 70-80quid now only to have to replace your model should it go up.

Wern't the stories about fire on the the Talon50 that was typically fitted to the Trex 550 v1? I run the Talon90 and have not seen any reports on the Talon90 (as fitted to 550e DFC v3) going up in flames

exactly the thoughts which are already tempting/forcing me into paying well over double for high end esc with decent rep.

I would rather have the cheaper one, the reason being more have been sold, they must have sold thousands of these, only one failure. I like those odds.

Even the expensive ones go POP! Just had a Jive 100+LV die on me on spool up. Admitedly it didn't catch fire but it's still dead as a Dodo. Ironically if there is ever a good time for an ESC to fail, just after the soft-start sequence is probably it.

I thought I read somewhere that the talon doesn't like the backup guard? Was going to use one myself if I went the talon route

I bought a Talon 90 and a YGE 90LV with the intention of fitting one to my Goblin and Trex 550. I did alot of reading on Helifreaks (after id bought them both) on the Goblin forum and wasnt comfortable at the frequency of the Talons failing. I decided to fit the YGE in my Goblin and the Talon 90 in my 550 as the Goblin was worth alot more.

Ive put 9 flights on the Talon in my 550 and 26 with the YGE on the Goblin and both have been flawless. Based on my experience id highly recommend both, but i do feel the Talon is a riskier option, the only thing id mention on the Talon is the BEC is optimistic, its says 6V but its outputs closer to 5.8v, not to mention the BEC is rated to 9A continous, which is impressive but would exceed the maximum current rating on a single servo connector, not sure why they didnt split it between 2 plugs.
