  • Help with G4 equipment buying. Suggestions please!

Following the success of the 450 pro DFC I just built which is great fun but kind of hard to see sometimes and is a bit wild in the wind, I'm looking for something bigger. I have a rappy 50 FB but want even bigger than that in FBL config so I have decided on the following:

    1x Raptor 90 G4 Nitro FBL Kit TT4894-K10
    1x O.S Max 105HZ-R Helicopter Engine OS18750
    1x OS 105HZ PowerBoost Pipe X-OS72146000
1x Spartan Vortex VX1 flybarless Controller With DataPod
1x Spartan Governor RPM Sensor Kit SRC-RPMK
3x MKS Brushless Cyclic Servo BLS950
1x MKS Brushless High Speed Tail Servo BLS980
1x MKS Standard Size Cyclic / Throttle Servo DS1210
1x EDGE 713mm SE Premium CF Blades - Flybarless Version LE-713SEFBL
    1x HE50H11 B6T 2 In 1 Voltage Regulator Combo with Align 2s lipo

I will need to buy a new DMSS Rx and possibly a new fuel pump, i've got a starter/glow plug etc (the B6T comes with a glow igniter anyway) Is there anything i've missed out on this list or should this config see me up and flying. I have all the build/setup gear I could need digi pitch gauge hex drivers etc. What fuel do most of you guys use? 15%/20%/30%? Should I use a different 2 in 1 regulator or a different govenor and lastly is this overkill? :P... It's my birthday coming up soon so want to treat myself. I'd love to hear any recommendations or additions anyone can suggest or if you can make it a bit cheaper and just as much fun then let me know It will be the last (new!!) heli i'll be allowed to buy for a while so want to make it a good one with good parts.

Any suggestions are welcome even if they crank the price up a bit. I'm not a 3d capable pilot but still want the 'good' stuff.

    Cheers, J.

I would suggest you find a much better source than the Align 2 in 1 but that is up to you. Consider using a straight 2S LiFe battery.

Now here's the thing, the B6T will probably work and I have seen a very aggresive pilot using one on a T-Rex 600 with a BeastX FBL unit and it has never let him down.

Personally as it only has the single supply lead on the output side I think it is a weak design. The concept is excellent and could do with a tweak imho.

How about an SBUS RX, if you transmitter works with SBUS it makes a much neater installation, or can any of the Futaba RX's output PPM? I'm a DSX9 user myself.

I'm using a JR XG8 DMSS..... sucks as absolutely nothing is compatible with it's sats. Was going to get the 14sg but didn't for some reason. really wish i had gone that route now or dx7/8 but im stuck now. so have to braid and shrink all the messy looking wires. the 450 pro dfc install was a nightmare.

Also would a beastx or Vbar be better than the VX1, have read lots of good reports on the VX1 being the reason i chose that over the beast or vbar which i know are tried and tested.

I think that would be a good solution, the BEC Pro is a well liked BEC.

I think Skookum now support DMSS sats, it might be worth emailing Angelos to find out if he has any plans to support the JR radios.

I have seen first hand the Align 2 in 1 fail also, when there working great but I wouldn't trust one on any of my models personally.

                  I have this on my G4 -

                  http://www.ultimatebuildandfly.co.uk...c-8-regulator/

If you already have a 450 then you can you the same packs for the G4.

I have the AR7200BX and the VX1, of those the VX1 has more features/settings and I like the datapod, its easy to mount it too cos both units and the datapod are tiny, I only just fitted the VX1 though so regarding flight its too early for me to comment. I have no experience of the VBar. I did have a SK720 and that was the best of all the flybarless systems I have tried.

If Skookum support the JR radio system then that may be the one to go for.

Out of the three the governor on the Vortex is easy to setup and the unit itself works very well.

I'm pretty sure Angeles was working on adding support for the jr. I will find out and post back unless he comes across this first

                            Cheers

Why do you need a reg when your running hv servos on it?

Just use a heavy duty switch and 2s lipo to power it all.

If you want a reg save a packet and get some bls451s and a bls256 running off a life pack.
