Ok if i was to be going down the lipo and regulator route, what sort of capacity lipo would be good. I was looking at TP 2s 3800mAh Rx packs on fastlad. are these too heavy or just right? Thanks to all so far for your input. I'm Just about to order the Heli and engine/muffler. I will do the electronics next month, makes it a bit easier on the ear bashing i'll get from my lovely lady plus it gives me a chance to get more info on the choices of FBL controller im going to go with. I'll probably have to do fuel and blades the month after that haha. Both the Skookum 540 and VX1 are very tempting, VX1 more so if they add DMSS sat support. cant be forking out £80 for every new heli large or small. I have sent Angelos a PM so hopefully he will come back with a positive answer soon.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

    Cheers

    Jack.

I was under the impression the MKS BLS 950's were 6v max or is the extra 1.2V not an issue?

When it comes to choosing a battery pick the one that gives the correct CoG. So build the model first then find out how much weight is required to get it to balance. Then go and buy a battery of that weight.

Well a bit of a change of plan, after a rather heated discussion with my (still) lovely lady, who just got home and saw the shopping basket I put together and was lets just say not impressed, I decided to go down the super combo route for the moment and upgrade in small amounts. I will still be going for the config in the original list, just over a bit of time. I am still looking forward to the arrival of the kit there is just going to be a few less shiny bits. Definitely going to upgrade the FBL controller and servos first and then will see about the engine and muff. Would have rather got the O.S. engine and Powerboost pipe but to avoid a massive row and the possibility of no sex for a very long time I think/hope the combo will suffice. Cheers for all the help with reg/lipo etc choice. I have ordered the Gryphon reg and auto boost as well. will sneak some blades, a couple of 2s lipo's and a crate of fuel in when it's all built and ready for setup. Think I got carried away with the original list hehe.

                  Cheers guys,

                  Jack.

You will love it mate. Nothing s wrong with the combo, and the Redline motor it's very nice and easy to tune.

Def go with the Gryphon reg and no the align reg. There is allot of £££ in the air to take any risks.

Enjoy the build, it's one of the best and most enjoyable builds I v done, very nice quality.

                    Cheers

Yeah i keep reading through Stuarts (i think) build log, I cant wait. Got to finish the 450 SE V2 rebuild and the decorating in the living room before I can start though or I am in deep trouble.

The problem is that the DMSS sats are short range as listed on the JR website.
JR Radios: RA01C DMSS Telem Antenna Mod Short-Range
JR Radios: RA01L DMSS Telem Antenna Mod Short-Range, Coax

These are often confusion with the JR telemetry modules which are full-range telemetry but that's not necessarily the same as full range control. Telemetry more forgiving you can miss lots of telemetry data without any effect on your flying.
JR Radios: RA01T DMSS Telemetry Antenna Mod Full-Range
JR Radios: RA01TL DMSS Telem Antenna Full-Range, Coax

For DMSS users the best solution seems to be the upcoming RG731BX receiver with XBUS output (something similar to Futaba SBUS). As soon I get hold of one of these receivers I will make the VX1 support it.
                        http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/a...9&d=1359552048

If I understand correctly you want to use the sats because they are cheaper than a standard RX. But does it worth flying a heli on a single short-range sat? Two sats + cables would probably cost close to the RG731BX anyway.

(sorry for hijacking the thread) I was looking to switching from Spektrum to JR DMSS but lacking fbl support made the decision difficult. With this promise you are making it easier for me, Angelos!

When I built my "ultimate" G4 I used high voltage servos and then ran a straight LiFe battery, cuts out a possible weak link of having to use a regulator. I went for Futaba HV BLS servos all round.

bls451's are the best bang for buck you can buy these days. a lot of people run them on 2s lipo with no issues.

Thanks for that info Angelos. I wasn't aware the sats with the coax antenna were not full range DMSS by the looks of it I'm going to have to go for a full size Rx. Space shouldn't be an issue on the G4 though so not a major problem it was just the "neatness" of wiring that comes with sats that I wanted really. I have heard a few mentions of JR XBus but am still waiting so see anything appear. Its great that you will be straight on the case with the compatibility of the new XBus Rx (when you manage to get one from JR that is!). I see what you are saying about 2 sats being same price as a full Rx as well, I was kind of hoping to be able to hotswap the sat I have on my se v2 and just get away with buying one more, never mind hey! Thanks for the quick response to my question albeit not the news I wanted!! Hopefully by the time JR have released XBus I'll be able to sneak in a purchase of the VX1 without too much fear of reprimand from the lady!

                                Thanks again,
