Humm I think this may be comming across as some sort of "muck raking" by me which it definatly is not , I have no axe to grind with CYE I love their products In fact cut me in half I will say CYE , lolOriginally posted by Jamin_00 View PostSorry to hear Rach.
Far easier and quicker to contact the distributor
I use Total G , Muscle pipes ,and fly the Rave.
My reason for posting is to get folk to check their helis and replace this part asap , lets face it if one of the stick banging types has this let go it could be nasty.
Ben do you think I should close this thread ? it's not my intention to slander just inform.
Thanks all.
Rachel
Ps incase anyone is confused what broke here is the pictures and before anyone askes this Rave has never been crashed.

ok the new design is still M3 (I think) but you drill out the blade grip and a bolt goes through into the ball.Originally posted by ChrisB View PostIs the new design thicker then, say M4 which is what it should be.
I removed the other ball of the other grip and its threaded down to the base and then wasted down to about 2MM (ish)
no wonder they are snapping.
hope this helps X Rachel

A turned part with a male thread is always a lot weaker than a bolt. The end of the machined threaded part is a big stress raiser, particularly if it is undercut to screw fully home into a square edged hole. Better to do without the undercut and chamfer or counterbore the hole on the blade grip.
The female thread and bolt will be much stronger (depending on the screw used of course). Its also cheaper to produce!(female theads are cheaper than male threads).
I think the manufacturers are just learning how much extra force gets onto the blade grip with flybarless helis. If you ever tipped the heli and hit the blade tip Rachael, its might have put unseen (and unseeable) damage onto the ball post. Previosuly this shock load was lost in the flybar tipping about or breaking the mixer arms.
I tipped my 600n over stretching an auto on saturday and was amazed to snap one side of the ccpm servo disc off on the push pull linkage (but not the other). Lucky I looked as everything still worked and I might have taken off again and had the loose end of the push pull link jam up on something (actually it was dead stick, out of fuel
).
Its amazing how a blade will stay in line and not flutter with a link missing (done that
). The blades have to be like that or they would never stay in track. Unless you have a lot of pitch on its quite likely to survive a link loss - but if you are hammering it with cyclic and collective it will flutter, get loads of drag, swing back in the grip and likely chop the boom off.

Hi all I have just heard back from Fast Lad who have checked and confirmed that the blade grip balls part no ND-YR7-AS1087 Flybarless blade grip balls are of the NEW type , I would suggest that you order these and replace the older style male thread type with the new female threaded type now supplied.
My email ref the problem has been forwared to FLP Distribution who will most likley forward it to Curtis, no direct reply from CYE yet .
Hope this helps
Rachel
