What ESC is recommended for the Ballistic? I know CYE say a CC120HV ( should have kept the electrics form the 700e )

Yeah pretty much anything suited for 12s 700 power should be plenty. It also depends on your flying style and if you plan to stretch it to a 700 size. Lots of people go quite a bit overkill because in reality your amp draws on 12s will be a lot lower than 120 amps! But if you fly really hard you can hit peaks in that vicinity. I was running a Castle Ice2 120 in mine and I keep meaning to look at the logs for the amp peaks but I know guys that have run 700 size F3C machines on smaller ESCs with no problems because the average amps will be a lot lower and they're not wacking in tons of collective or doing really fast changes etc.

I've just fitted a YEP120HV on mine because I want to play around with some really low headspeeds and the YEP, YGE and Kontroniks have active freewheeling which is better suited for running at low throttle.

I'm using a Kontronik 80hv on my stretched 635 with zero issues, prefer the internal BEC of the Kontronik.

I hope so because I have two of them now I have not yet heard anything bad about them, everyone seems to love them. If they end up working as well as I'm led to believe I'll probably sell the Castle Ice2. One of the YEPs is going on the Triabolo but I'm going to run it first with the Castle just to be able to see logs for the total amps at various headspeeds, afterwards I'll fit the YEP.

It runs an older firmware of YGE but works just as well, same prog card to. I've previously run one for several months on a 700 DFC with no probs, very reliable esc with a good internal gov.

Ah good to get some feedback on it. Lets see if my 500 sells, once it's gone I'll be able to buy the parts for the Rave. My next thoughts are what servos to use. I've used MKS on pretty much everything so far and they've been excellent. My cheap source of MKS is no more though :lol:

Yeah, I have to say, I am tempted but just too skint at the moment. I have them on two helis and they're very convenient, almost no setup needed and a good built-in BEC, good gov and you can run a small buffer pack as a backup.

Just an update, as motors and ESCs have been discussed; I now have the YEP 120 on my Rave working perfectly. However, for reasons as yet unknown, I could not get the Helidrive motor to play nicely with any of my ESCs, so either they require very different settings (and I did try settings recommended by a couple people) or... maybe mine is just one that shouldn't have passed QC.

Sooo, what does work very well is the YEP with an Align 700M motor that I had rewound and new bearings fitted. In fact I was rather blown away by the amount of power available (and I'm using very ordinary Turnigy packs, so no super high C-rated things). Even with the heavy 5000mah packs the vertical climb is crazy and no bogging anywhere to be seen. This motor is a good bit higher KV, around 530, and the Helidrive is 480 so I may see about getting a 12 tooth pinion as I have a 13 now.

Pete, if you happen to order the ali upper bearing block from RCBits in Australia, make sure to tell them to post it the cheapest airmail, I think it's the equivalent of a large letter and should be $6.34AUS according to the Auspost website. They didn't tell me how they were sending it and I got hit after the fact with $20.00AUS because they posted it recorded or some other premium service, which is silly for a small part that is only $19.95 AUS in the first place.

Maybe FL will get it back in stock and then it's a moot point. In any case it's nothing urgent, my Rave is still working fine with the stock plastic one.

Beginning to think this was a bad buy for me, getting very disillusioned with it all. Made my mind up to stretch it, only for FL to be sold out of not only the booms, but this morning I notice the boom supports are out too. And the ESC plate because I figured it'd work better to get one since the 635 doesn't come with any.

Went to order from amain, only to realise after VAT it would cost me an extra £35 over buying form FL if they had everything in stock.

Tempted to just stick it back on ebay and buy a trex 700e super combo, at least I can buy spares for those all over the place.
