I use a castle HV45 and medusa BEC but the HV30 would be a better bet, I just already had the HV45 lying around. Peak current is around 22A on the G5, hovering is around 7A.

More X3D paddles video and also a couple of the new outrage 550 at IRCHA.

As Ade has already pointed out, I really should open my heli box before trying to put the heli back in it.

Fair point. I can't argue if it does the job for £30.Originally posted by Ade_Law View Postyes the manual isnt great but for 30ukp with a bec that works... who cares
It also seems that the people with higher spec ESCs had them already, rather than buying them in preference to the HobbyWing.Yes, it's th@ tw@ Scallyb@...

Well you already know what I thinkOriginally posted by Smoothound View PostNo maiden flight report then?
But for the benefit of others...
After 15 or so packs through it I'm liking the outrage more and more
Still have a bit of fettling to do with it but it sure does fly like it's on rails even in gusty winds, in fact it flies more like a 50 size than a 450 size!
Piro rate is a bit slow for my liking but I still have to fiddle with the gyro and end points in the Tx so it may speed up somewhat. Right hand piros were the slower of the two.
I've not done anything too aggressive with it yet just a few loops rolls and flips today after some stooging about bedding the packs in. I definatley need to go to the advanced 3D settings as it doesn't flip fast enough for my liking, but for others it should be fine. I like the smaller helis to flip quick and have fast cyclics. Going to try the advanced 3D settings for tomorrow and see how it goes with those.
I've been flying for about 5min 30 seconds and I'm only getting 550ish mah's back into the packs so the reports of long flight times with the 6s HV set up seems to be pretty much spot on.
All in all a fantastic 450 sized heli, I never was a fan of the T-rex so I can't compare to that but next to my old Hornet it sure is a lot easier to handle and does not mind the wind one little bit, quite surprising for such a small sized heli.
10/10
What headspeeds are you guys (Ash and Ade) running on your outrages? I only tachoed mine today and it was over 2400 (tacho only goes up to 2400) So I have backed it off to be more like the manual recomends. Still has a great climb rate though
Throttle curve at about 60% with a JR tx and Kontronic Esc.

most recomend 2700 mines about 2800 tho.
I had a couple of packs on mine today. first with stock black GF blades and x3d paddles, second with the carbon blades.
x3d paddles are damn fast, just its not quite as stable but thats to be expected didnt do anything nasty in FFF and always predictable.
carbon blades defo give more power, you can use more pitch and cyclic together before it bogs. For any normal person that would mean longer flight time, for me it just means i can use more cyclic and collective together :-)

I run around 2700 on mine, that seems to give me the best performance, I could drop it back but the 3D is superb at 2700 so I'm sticking with that. It does drop the flight time a bit though when you push the headspeed up.
Completely agree on the flying like a 50 aspect, it's not like a 450 at all, perfect for practicing stuff you would normally do with the 50 but without the crash repair worries.

Right. I'll have to dig out my old tacho that goes above 2400 , bump up the head speed and hold on tight

I've got some 3D paddles on the way to try out, I've not used the FG blades they are still in the box untouched
This is very quickly going to become my favourite 'chuck about' heli, much less fear of crashing when you know the repair costs aren't going to involve eating lentils and mung beans for a month to pay the bills.

love flying mine, it lives in the van when im working and stop off at suitable spots when i can. not done so much flying in a long time.
the only thing i have to compensate for is that the tail hold isnt as strong and will blow out if crashed.
crashing is defo cheap. Done 2 crashes so far,
first was a botched inverted auto, it does do em, just dont do em too low! only damage was a broken skid and vertical tail fin.
second was a heavy in after pushing it too far and bogging it so the tail blew out at low level and in it went...
maingear,
mainshaft
spindle,
boom,
damn wikid.

I don't think I am capable of pushing it hard enough to blow the tail out just yet
No way am I going to attempt an auto on this, had to many rebuilds on micros from trying those, I'll stick to autos on the big helis for now
Right back to charging packs ready for tomorrows session

my copter case has become my tx case which just happens to be big enough to take the G5 too :-)

On a slight side note
Is there a definitive list of parts from the Trex 450 that fit the Outrage before I sell off all my 450 V2 stuff?
I'm thinking main and tail drive gears (inc one way or not?), main shaft, flybar, spindle anything I've missed?Last edited by Smoothound; 25-08-2008, 11:07 AM.Phil
