I might be alone here but I do love my 700xx. One mean machine.

Although it is, it actually doesn't feel heavy in the air and is very nimble. Just damn expensive and I don't 'fly it like I stole it' as a result.

Thats what the trex is for

Isnt that exactly what the 69SX is.. i.e. a 700 size heli with the low weight and flying style of the 600SX?

If you make a 'true' 700 heli with the beefed up construction of a purpose designed 700 then it's going to be as heavy as a 700. You cant have your cake and eat it. Last time i checked carbon fibre had a far better strength to weight ratio compared to any form of plastic, so why making a heli out of plastic should automatically make it lighter just doesn't make sense to me, unless you make it an overall less 'hefty' construction, which gets us right back to the 690SX.

And Mikados are always going to be expensive, even the plastic frames ones are.

I am very keen to see what they come up with but i think Thunder Tigers E700 will take some beating,i call that a 'true' 700 and light with it.

Yeah, but whilst carbon is incredibly tough and light you still need a lot of aluminium parts to hold it all together, and this is where it gets heavy. The beauty of the plastic moulded frame is it is strong where it needs to be, but also incredibly light. The current 550/600/690 pod has some limitations, primarily around the 10mm main shaft (most 700s use 12mm or greater), the one way bearing and motor mount. Other issues like the battery compartment size and swash have been addressed in the 690sx modifications, but unless they revise the pod there is no way they can enlarge the main shaft or improve the OWB design.

Addditionally if you look at the 700xx, it is actually running the 800xx head - which, whilst it is a work of art, is complete overkill for the application. IMO a refreshed pod that as purpose built for 700 use, and a refined, lighter weight head would make all the difference. If mikado do this they will have a so called 'true' 700 without the weight (and we will be having our cake and eating it!).

Anyone who who has owned a logo will agree; yes they are expensive but equally they fly better than anything else!

Thanks for the explanation, it does make sense when you explain it that way. It will be interesting to see if Mikado can pull off the 'having your cake and eating it' trick!

Thanks Phil. Explained it better than I could and that's exactly the thing. While the 690sx is designed to run 700mm blades, really it's nothing more than a 600se that's had certain parts of the drive train (OWB, swashplate and blade grips) beefed up to run headspeeds of 2000-2100 rpm rather than the 600se's limit of 1800 rpm plus had an additional pod slung underneath the 600 body to allow modifications to get big enough batteries in there. There's no doubt the 690sx works but it is a huge compromise trying to get an actual 600 to perform as a 700.

                Hi all,

I believe the 690 was a step towards answering customers wishes without a complete revamp. As you say without a major redesign of the plastic chassis it is not going to happen. The problem is with mould/production set up costs and the amount of units Mikado would have to sell my prove unviable.
The 700xx head looks the same as the 800xx but is indeed a smaller version of its bigger brother.
Totally agree that Logos are superb to fly.
It will be an awesome model for sure if Mikado do produce a true new light weight 700 to compete with say the TT E700.

                Mark.

If you're not going to be buying it before the summer then save some more for a 700sx. I've had my sights on a E700 for some time as a club mate has one and it looks and flies lovely (but then he's a damned sight better pilot than I'll probably ever be - and he's still improving continually). When I saw the 700 comments from Dave Dahl though...

Mikado is on to a winner with this plastic 700, people have been waiting years for it. I'd definitely hold out for it, IMO the 690SX has just been cobbled together from bits in Mikados parts bins.

Chris, Hope this setup is still performing well. What helijive ESC are you using? Also, would be interested to know what servos you have on the head and tail?
