Shame it's happened , but I would have thought a good level of testing would have highlighted this type of failure before launch .

It doesnt work like that. A certain amount of testing will help but you will never get all the issues and failures until you start a full production run.

I guess it's a balance. With the 500X, they announced and it promptly failed to appear for nearly a year whilst they sorted out final testing and servo issues. They were criticised quite heavily for that. With the 700X, they announce it and make it available in very short shrift - but then this comes to light.

As Ben says though - they've found it (not customers), and they've moved to fix it straight away, which is good. That said, the potential for 700mm blades to go flying of their own accord at ~2000RPM isn't something they could really have played down, or not moved on instantly as it's a major safety issue. It's why they've advised customers to ground their helis until they get the new washers in the heads.

As you say, shame though as they're trying to find their place at the non-micro end of the market ...

Have to disagree I work in the space industry we tests to destruction or to the environmental conditions , to ascertain a realistic MTBF figure , you can add margin to cover a level of uncertainty , waiting for your customers to check your design reliability is commercial bad practice. I agree you can cover every eventuality.

We are talking rc helis, not space shuttles. I work in manufacturing and development too and I bet no one in manufacturing will go to the same lengths of testing as you lot in the space industry NEED to. Its just not viable to.

You guys have to find everything out and how long does that take and how much money? I agree you can find all issues but it wont be like that with normal everyday manufacturing.

Glad I never brought one , not that I ever would . All manufacturers have defects and recalls from time to time and im glad they spotted before somebody got hurt. I'm surprised though, I thought BEN VARLEY may have brought one of these and put some KT gear in it, as he has had everything else pmsl ! Bestie !

Makes you wonder how a simple metal washer can 'fail'.

A pal of mine worked as a drive-train engineer for Rover. He had just picked up his new company car - a Rover - and on day 1 his gear stick came off in his hands

Seems assembly line had forgotten to put in a washer under the stick

                        Embarrassed or what!
                        Happy Landings.

A woman I used to work with was on telly because a manufacturing fault left her driving down the road with no stearing wheel!! Well she still had hold of the wheel but it wasn't attached to anything lol
