Well its flying now (just hovered around) and all is well, field test tomorrow. Couldn't leave it stock part of the tweak was a 800 conversion so now as follows,
Trex 780N,
Align 780mm mains,
115 Tails,
YS120 pipe/Hatori,
HV servos all round,
Vbar Silverline with Vbar gov,
Black gear sets all round,
DFC until SXTS head arrives,
plus other stuff.

Good to hear that you've got it built but I think it's a mistake to have turned it into an 800. The whole point I thought when you bought it Mj was to get another 90N with a YS120 that you could really throw around like the old Rave. IMO 800 size heli's are just not as sharp around the sky, we've seen that with the Logo 800 (a complete dog!) Tims old Goblin 760, although that is SO much better than the Logo, so for me personally a 90 is the best all round size.Originally posted by maj View PostWell its flying now (just hovered around) and all is well, field test tomorrow. I think you should have tried it with 690/710's first with the KDE head, which we know is better than the DFC head, you would have loved it I'm sure, now it's a compromise......all IMHO of course Mj!
Hopefully have a catch up on the phone in the next couple of days.

G bit of method in the mistake ;-) Got the 780's, got the boom stretch kit and the biggest motor right now that will fit in. Keen to see what can be had flying wise with it. SXTS is better we know that but the problem I have is it hasn't arrived. I've fitted the stock swash and literally bolted the DFC to get airborne. The 700mm boom assy is built and its a 10 minute job to change and my curiosity will be satisfied. In the time you've been away Ive acquired more nitro's that can be abused so at the mo I have a 690 (91), 700 (e), 710 (105) and 780 (120) machine to take to the field so pretty well covered.
The Gob 770 was superb G very impressed with it (now sold). If the Align Nitro is 3/4 of that but 8 mins flight time I will be very happy.
Catch up soon buddy

If the gov and gearings good my electric loves the 1850 lower hs for soft smooth 3d....but it has to be said the dfc head can feel a little too sharp during piro moves and bite you in the arse sometimes. Other than that its an awsome performer...and a rabid beast at 2150..and im still on the 750mx!...people go on about the 800-850 but im still quite happy with the performance. And so is the wallet. Lol :-)sigpic

Had another 3 flights on the 780N and I'm really pleased. Really light feel in the air and with the new motor with rich running great power. Feels a little like Logo 600SE in a lot of ways and you either like that or you don't. 8 minutes half a tank of fuel at around 1650rpm. Will be a blast at 1950. Not done masses with it but settled to the DFC head nicely for now. Blew the clutch which halted play. Didn't think it would last long engaged at unusually high revs so obviously the stock gap is incorrect. Anyway Lynx clutch and new liner enroute will ensure the gap is right this time.
All in all promising start and vids to come when engine is tuned.

Good to see you again today Mj after another months break from flying and even better to have done all my packs through the 700e. Hopefully when I get the 560kv motor the 700 should start coming alive how I want it but such short flight times really annoy after so much flying that we've done with nitro helis. Anyway.......
Have to say that the 700n with 780 blades flew brilliantly today even though still on a 'v' curve and the 120 not quite run in yet. With the KDE head, clutch/one way hub and stainless frame hardware upgrades it looks as high end as anything else for sale at the moment and will be fantastic once it's run in and governed. I really thought it was a mistake to stretch it out with the 800 parts but I was wrong and it's only a five minute job to swap the tails etc if you decide to go back to 690/710's.
Look forward to tomorrow.

Yes maj, the stock clutch is crap. Not used the Lynx one myself, but got a quick UK One in mine thats been fine for months. Did two stockers in about 2 weeks, but is all good now.
You may find the lynx one a bit grabby but dont worry it wears in. DOnt do what I did though and glue the new liner in with a packer! You either pack the liner / use a thicker one with the stock clutch, or use an upgraded clutch with the align liner.NONE OF THE BELOW HELI'S ARE OWNED BY ME ANY MORE

Thanks for the positive comments G. After the sess I went home, tuned the YS to the new 20% RR and hooked up the governor so now really looking forward to getting out with it.
Re the clutch I fitted the Lynx, scrapped out the old liner and replaced with a stock liner, wrapped the Lynx in 1 layer of electrical tape and glued. It was grabby at first but bedding in really nice now. Also I found the one way to slip which I have replaced with a KDE unit and both clutch and one way seem to handle the YS120 and 780 mm blades fine now.
The 115 tails were low to the ground so fitted 800E pro skids and tail fin. All in all spec'd up now to handle the additional length. Decent performance, smooth and superb run times. Just got fed up with E heli's 4-4:30 flight time and no regrets loading my fleet back to nitro.

Quick update. Managed to get to the field late after the rain had passed and meet up with Jonesheli. Fired up the YS120 now on Rotor Rage 20% and idles well and runs up great on the Vbar gov. Idle 1 1850 off it goes, I never got to Idle 2 1950 as it was so much fun at 1850. Sounds like a beast and performance to match. Overall really really pleased def a worthy conversion. Glad I gave in it is a really enjoyable helicopter to fly although not quite stock
