If it makes you feel any better RF3/3.5/4/4.5 was just as bad. It would be very nice if Phoenix could put the online probs to bed though. TBH my internet connection has always been suspect with vastly varying speeds so online gaming was never up to much.
Most ISP's are using throttling software thats regulating your usage even if your not using much bandwidth me thinks?

LOL... Nope. Thats just making their situation more worse. They can't handle the one issue that's been on from the start and they're messing about with this new stuff.Originally posted by Ashley Davis View PostSo making updates to the multiplayer connectivity code, adding upnp support, updating the network library to latest levels and changing the way it works in the last three v3 beta updates doesn't register on your scale of acknowledging it and trying to fix it?
Did those "some" pay any extra for their product?Originally posted by Ashley Davis View PostYou may not have noticed but there are some people reporting that after recent beta updates their problems are solved or significantly improved.
Why does this topic always end up with bitter faces? With all due respect, the issue is a simple one Ashley - the basic connectivity issue and the truth of the matter is IT IS OUT THERE - whatever you say and how much ever anybody tries and cover it up. And they are NOT doing anything about it.Jason

you see the problem I have with the comments in this thread is that people keep coming up with crap like 'phoenix burying their heads in the sand'. Yet clearly there have been multiple changes to the network code in the last three betas. With varying degrees of success, I'm sure that when this eventually ends it will be as good as it can be...........
Now, the fact that it isn't working for some or there are some funky things going on...... or it worked just now and now it doesn't. None of this indicates a solid phoenix issue, allthough there may be ways in which phoenix code can be improved to get better stability (which is what they are trying to do now with the current beta updates).
Saying other online games work is just not seeing the big picture AT ALL, online gaming is a multi-million dollar business and those businesses connect you directly to their server(s) and dedicated network. It's a client server model because in that business model it's affordable due to quite literally millions of people buying the product and paying for the massive gaming servers and network data centers to host it all. This makes connectivity predictable as it's just your machine connecting to a known server with a constant bandwidth (ie. the speed of your connection).
Phoenix is in a very small market and relies on your pc making a peer to peer connection with everybody else in the session. The only client server connection is from phoenix to the session server which holds details of who is holding a session, when you join the session you go back to a peer to peer.
Now to make this work everybody in the online session has to be able to connect to everybody else, seamlessly and with no issues. The problem is that everybody is using different routers, on different ISPs, different speed connections. This makes creating a stable online gaming experience somewhat tricky to setup and maintain.
So before talking about how multi-player this that and the other works and therefore it's phoenix, try having a think about the fact that you are comparing apples to bananas. The issues of connectivity are FAR more likely to be network incompatabilities between you and the peers you connect with than any other cause.Last edited by Ashley Davis; 12-10-2010, 11:33 PM.

try reading, nowhere in my post do I say it's your fault or in fact anybody elses, for all we know it could be your ISPs fault, or the ISPs of the people you connect to, or a mismatch in protocol negotiation between your particular router and someone else's.Ashley i can accept that its all my fault mate seriously
Or your firewall, or someone else's........ remember this is peer to peer so it could be anything on your pc having a disagreement with anything on someone else's. Case in point is Challis349 post, he turns off his firewall and suddenly it works...... now is that phoenix or the firewalls fault?
I won't be posting on this thread further as I feel it's just become a manufacturer bashing thread rather than anything to which somebody can respond positively without further pointless bashing.Last edited by Ashley Davis; 12-10-2010, 11:54 PM.
