on the instruments vario do some kits for the 60 size models some of the stickers for them are a little naff but the main housing is ok
this is what I used on my hirobo bell47g2 gasser
sorry i don't have any pictures and at present i can't get to the model to take any

Please could someone help me out with trying to remove a hollow pin from the bottom of the main shaft holding the main gear in place.
I've tried heating it up and pulling out with pliers but there is not enough sticking out to get a decent grip and I've nothing small enough to push through from the other side.
Pics attached,a bit blurry but should get the idea.
      Thanks

you need a good quality pin punch of the correct size
that is the only way to remove it
don't try to drill it out as it will be too hard

as said dont try to drill it out but you could find the correct size drill that is blunt at the bottom of your tool box and use that to drive it out
these pins are made of spring steel and you would normaly use a pair of pliers to crimp the spring steel pin and pull out

            Thanks for the info.
I've ordered a 1.6mm pin punch as I don't want to damage anything.
            Thanks

Well I tried the Leatherette vinyl on the standard seats and it wouldn't stick plus looked naff.
I have now managed to remove the old seats and I have decided to make some new ones out of balsa and covering.
Any suggestions on this matter very welcome.
              Thanks

                Update on the electric conversion.
I managed to pick up the items from Vario UK, but unfortunately the motor mount won't take my Scorpion 4235-520 mounting holes configuration and the newer main gears need a hub where as mine is a solid gear.
So back to the drawing board regarding the conversion.

I'll have a look to see if I have any of the blue left over and you will need some wadding for underneath.

I'm seriously thinking of keeping the heli nitro as it is becoming harder to come by an electric conversion for my mechanics.
The German company I was speaking to wanted over £500 for a motor mount, pinion, main gear and a gearbox.Totally not worth it.
I'm going to have to decide on a colour scheme soon as I'm taking my bits and pieces to the powder coating company on Tuesday.
Couple of pics to show the cockpit stripped down and a new member to the team (I'm thinking of calling him Adam) came via my seven year olds toy Helicopter.

                    • I've decided to keep the heli as nitro for the time being.I can't even get a newer skyfox frame etc as it won't go in frame of the 47g as the newer ones are bottom fastening.
I'm struggling to get the split pin from the bottom of the main shaft. My pin punch came and broke with the first hit so back to the drawing board.
Are there any recommendations on which on board glow plug driver to go for ?

                      • I'm sure you could get someone to make up a pair of ali sides if you can map out the dimensions. All you need is a pair of ali plates cut to roughly a triangle shape with holes to bolt it onto the frames. Then use a Trex motor mount to bolt the motor to the side pieces, might require some washers or something as a spacers depending on the width. It just looks like a pretty easy conversion. The only other thing would be just getting a bigger gear and then so long as there is a one-way unit in there somewhere you're in biz. I really think it's worth doing.

Can you try using a new pin to partially knock the old pin out, then pliers to pull both pins out?

                            • Yeah I did see that one, very nice too.
The Hirobo's are 1/4 scale though so quite a bit bigger.I got offered one at the same time I bought my Vario but couldn't quite get to where the seller wanted.
                              Maybe next time though.

I've just come across an old planks kit in the loft I'd forgotten about with lots of sheet balsa in so I'm going to attempt to build some bench seating.
Did you come across any left overs Heliboys? Drop me a line if you did as I will have it off you (for a fair price of course).

I've decided on my colour scheme, it's a tad loud but I like it and I think it will be easily seen while flying (as long as I finish it).
I could even put my pilot 'Adam' in a pink jump suit.

                              • Well here goes,,,My first ever attempt at making anything from scratch.
I've used 2mm sheet balsa and some very thin packing foam to give a little bit of cushion effect, as normal foam would be too thick.
I did it all free hand so might not be perfectly even but will look ok once covered and in heli.
I need to decide on a covering and have seen some blue faux suede fabric on ebay (blue). Once that arrives I can then cover.
The back rest will be the same without the cut out in the middle.
Last pic,Adam trying it out for size..
