The image does do harm if it makes someone feel that this hobby isn't for them.
And honestly it says exactly that.
What would a 14 year old girl think of it? I've had this with vintage scooters in the past too.
People need to know there's a very supportive all inclusive hobby here and it would be a shame if people were put off by careless marketing.
Right i'm off to chain myself to something!
theres no point in running off now, you have our attention.
1) the forum didn't do the marketing for the toy helicopter
2) why not take it up with the above
Welcome to the forum Paula. I hope you won't be put off by those kinds of things, it's just 'life in the big city' as they say, the way of the world. Regarding actual flying at clubs I've never experienced any kind of attitude or anything (even at places that others said were not 'heli friendly').
I live with flatmates and many have come and gone over the years and none of them have had any interest in RC flying of any kind.
From what I see, the woman in the picture wouldn't make me want to buy that heli at all, so her placing is really not required. I can't see how seeing a picture of a model in Bikini you can take harm and think I'm not going to fly helicopters? Yes men do seem to be the most into the hobby/ sport, but from the women I've seen at the the comps we attend, I'd give my left nut to be able to fly like them. This forum is all about helping one and other and we all will do so as much as we can, like Brian said, why not take it up with the people who made the add if it offends you so badly? Welcome to the forum anyway

when I started in the hobby flying fixed wing being taught at the same time was a young lady flying heli's
so there are a few young ladies flying fixed wing/heli's just look at the bmfa news to see quite a few girls pictured with their model aircraft
there is a high rate of people who try the hobby and then give up because they can't advance as far as they thought they would in a short space of time
so you young ladies should stay commited for the long term to show us grey haired old men that you can succseed in anything that is possible
and it is sad to see with advertising that they prey on the gullible who think with their groin and not their only brain cell
I hope you stick around here and join in the mad house with the other fine young ladies
and can you guess which of the replies is by a young lady?

Regarding that photo on the box for the fuselage, I don't know about that one specifically but keep in mind a lot of things in this hobby are coming from the far east, Taiwan, China, Japan, etc. and it's a very very different culture.

This sort of advertising will be used as Rc helis is seen as a male dominated hobby,if we see more women entering the hobby and then maybe things will change. You do see more women entering into what were once male dominated things nowadays, like motorcycle racing,Jenny Tinmouth races in the British Super Bike class and she has to put up with a load of brolly girls on the grid.
I will contact them and maybe send a link to this thread too. Honestly i'm not on a massive rant, I just wanted to try and make people think twice before posting things.
It really is something that might put off females joining in. It really is, and i know because i am one.

I don't think many people on here buy helis on what the boxes look like, we're a little more choosy than that. Just cause one toy manufacturer try to gain an advantage by glamming up its packaging hardly makes this a sexist hobby.
i could be wrong but from what I've seen I don't think Sheryl or Rachel get treated differently because of their gender, to me they're just Heli flyers like everyone else.

I totally agree that women are treated equally once they get into the the hobby. My concern was the people that might get put off before that.
