  • Hand Warmers

Enjoyed a nice gentle couple of flights this evening in the very almost dark! I wrapped up warm, and despite trying, I cannot fly with gloves on so I need some hand warmers for in between flights. I'm determined not to let the cold stop me flying this year!

Which warmers do you use? If you don't but have another method, what is it?

    Thanks!

I bought two of those zippo hand warmers last year. They are both now in the bin, I Could never get them to work properly. The method I use now is called "Man up" But im not sure where they sell it

I bought the girlfriend something like these guys sell a few years ago for xmas though. may be of use for us? Only lasts 90 mins or so though so you may need a few.

Zippo handwarmer, a bit temperamental to get working but quite good when it does work and lasts a long time.

For my outdoor winter photography I use Jack Pyke charcoal hand warmers.

Link below is at Amazon but google for cheaper.

Zippos are fab, but getting them lit can be a pain. I light mine with my little blow torch before I leave. Never had any luck lighting it any other way. Another good thing to light them with is one of those wind proof lighters which have a blow torch like flame.

Wouldn't be without mine, had toasty hands all day between flights.
                  Cheers,
                  Simon

Might give the zippo a go, and follow Si_B's advice. I'll pack my gas solder iron to keep it lit

Best hand warmer is a mug of tea.... at home, on the sofa, with your feet up.

I have the Zippos and also light them with a mini blow lamp, but I can't get them to keep going when I'm at the field. I think it's got something to do with being buried too deep inside coat pockets, where they get starved of oxygen and just go out?

Try pulling the wooly stuff up a bit so its closer to the element.

Be careful with turbo flames as i ruined an element with one,use a candle flame at home to light it or get a zippo lighter as they have a big flame and temps don't upset the fluid unlike gas.Oh and you don't burn your thumb lol
