    SECOND HAND SECTION Plz Read

    Who cares?

The more moaning people do about pedantic insignificances, results in more rules and more moderation. It's now MSUK.

This used to be a relaxed community, and was completely different to any other forum i frequented; hence why i stuck around for the last 5 years.

If you want to become Nipster, PM Stuart instead of bumping pointless threads like this one back up.

I may be an outdated post-hippie generation 'live and let live' left-winger so maybe my attitude is not relevant here but my view has always been that adults need to be empowered to make choices and have responsibility. When given that responsibility they will usually live up to it. It is also a well known principle that if adults are treated like children they will behave like children.

So too many rules and / or too heavy-handed, enforcement without discretion and you create an environment where no one is empowered, no one is trusted to be responsible, no one owns their decisions. On the other hand obviously some rules are needed on any site that grows to the size this one has.

At the end of the day 99.9 % of the time there is simply no reason for anyone to get all hot under the collar about stuff here, it's just not a big deal. When I was a mod I'd see all the reported posts and it's true that someone somewhere will be offended at almost anything or feel the need to tattle on somebody but in the real world we don't run and tell the teacher when we don't like something (I hope), we just get on with it, as adults should.

Think of yourselves as the archetypal warrior monk - mature thinking, wise, calm and serene yet with a steely focus - the warrior monk doesn't need to tattle on someone for any little perceived rule infringement, the warrior monk has better things to be concerned about. Think of yourselves as Jedi Knights and all this silly rule business and the proper way to relate to it will be abundantly clear. The mods will get rid of spammers and anything that truly needs sorting, the rest will sort itself if we are all Jedi warrior monks.
