Broadly speaking, I'm in agreement with what's been proposed, so, in the short term, I'll merge any threads stating now sold etc into the original post, which will knock the thread off the main page (usually).
Naturally, I'll PM the OP with the how to instructions, repeat offenders may lose their rights as per normal rules.

So this is a new rule that had just been added on a whim at the behest of a small minority on this thread?

Can I say that it doesn't bother me at all and I think the risk of warnings and retraction of privileges because you did something only a couple of members don't like is absurd!
There are already numerous rules within the for sale section, penalising members who post "Sold" as another post is ridiculous!

It's not even an option,its not there!

Everyone has a 30 day window for updating - if it hasn't sold in 30 days its an on shelf item imho.

sold pending payement
payement received

Meanwhile everybody else who has something for sale has been bumped off the list, all they have to do is EDIT the original page.

I think the point people are finding irritating is that when someone adds to their thread just to say 'sold' it has the same effect as a bump as it forces the thread up to the top again.

The idea of the prefix was to let people mark a thread as 'sold' without bumping it in the process.

If your changing any status in the item whether it be the details on the item or items or payment status you only ever need to EDIT the original post.

The only time you should ever need to add another post to the original thread is to respond to a question or the allowance every other day BUMP.....

Things like a buyer puts payment sent in a post all the seller has to do is to THANK the poster not add another post saying payment received if you feel the need to communicate with the buyer then PM directly.

The threads in the forsale section should be minimal in terms of posts the OP should be highly detailed and constantly edited until item/s are sold.

I have to be honest here and say I totally agree with Ian.

Stuart and the team do a great job of running this site, it doesn't need to be made more complicated. The rules that are in place are more than adequate IMO.

i get it..
i am not out to annoy anyone here. a lot of people have had really good bargains from me and i have bought a lot of stuff on here too.
as i feel my way through this hobby to the things that best suit me i sell the thingfs that dont suit me.
Perhaps i can bring something useful to this section. i was heavily involved in other forums and due to the traffic on the for sale section it was changed so that when an item was listed, it was not possible to post on the thread. you could only pm the seller.
This cut down an awful lot of posts which kept bumping the thread back to the top of the topics.
I am not sure how you do it but i do not think its difficult.

Trexamaniac I can see you point on updating the buyer etc, but this can all be done in the original thread. I did send you a hint in a post earlier today, and you have previously commented on this thread so you were aware what was going on

Why do member start a debate in the forsale section, over ads. I thought it was just for selling items

Seems to be lots of daily bumping going on, I believe the rules state
bump every other day, so I am assuming that is 48 hours! Intervals

1. Only post a response to selling / wanted posts if your a genuine potential purchaser / seller
2. No posts that either promote or undermine the original sellers / wanters post.
3. Only bumping allowed by the seller / wanters - once every other day
