Keep up the good work chaps, I'm holding back like many others until we have a good guide to help us decide which is the best. Once all the testing is done would you be able to give opinions as to the best packs for sports flying as many of us aren't up to the 3d level yet.
Velocity 50
Synergy N5
Fury 55 FBL
Trex 700
Light travels faster than sound, this is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak....
I will be most interested in the data (if there is any) once you guys have flown over 10 cycles on each pack. To me that will give us more realistic info and will let the chemistry in the packs fully form. Also we might get an idea of how easy it is to kill certain packs.
In my limited experience the revos seem to be most effective after 5-10 cycles and before then the packs vary. Also I have 6 x Revo2100 3s for the 450 and they are all different in performance.
ok folks, little update. thanks goes to barney for the idea which i simplified/adapted for my own needs.
the 3200 packs from revo in 6s guise did fit in the heli but it was a bit too low on the battery tray for me. as you can see the canopy posts have been moved up and forward a little and you will see a piece of 16th ply in the canopy slot which the canopy simply sits under. the ply is VERY VERY tight fit and it isn't moving, infact i will glue it in as i have no need to remove it now. doing this mean we can move the packs much higher up on the battery tray. i think we maybe gained a good 1" further back and now my heli is spot on balance wise and barney has flown it and now says doing this made a huge difference.
before people ask no you don't need to do this, the packs fit without it it's just i wanted to do it.
What i am looking for is a 5s pack that fits on the standard layout battery tray without any modifications like the Thunder Power 5s 3300 does..
Are the Revos sized accordingly for this,my ESC is mounted underneath the tray coz thats where i like them so any Lipo must go where intended in the original design
To use the top plate you need to keep pack depth under about 34-35mm..length maybe 130-150 depending on width as the nose narrows.
IMHO opinion the canopy is sitting a little too far back and low making it difficult to get the bigger packs in.. (In fact the pushrods can rub on the canopy). Also small packs end up way forward part way off the plate to get it even close to balancing.
The 3200 6S is quite close CG wise only being a little nose heavy whilst retaining the proper canopy position. The trouble is the lack of room forces you to stagger the cells a lot and leaves you with the packs forward and very difficult to locate the battery and get the hood on...its just so tight for space.
With the canopy mod it lets you bring the packs higher up on the tray giving you two benifits. It gets the CG very close to optimium (still a tad nose heavy) AND also brings the weight higher up closer to the rotor disk which improves the cyclics. With the battery high up the model now rolls a lot more axially.
With a 5S I think it will be about perfect for balance but whether it has the same oommpphh we wont know for sure till someone has tried it against a similiar 6S battery as pinions are like hens teeth at the moment.
The 6s I have is 522g in 5S it will be approx 435g and 35-36mm deep so be a very close fit..
The 5s 3300 TP is 32x48x148 and 430grams as used by Krause
All the Electrolite options are too big at 44x35x140 for 5s
But I wouldnt buy a big Electrolite anway so thats not a problem,
The Maxpoly 5s 4000 is too big so i hope the 3800`s or 3200`s they are getting are OK.
I will await all the testing before commiting but The ThunderPower 5s 3300 is now top of my list,i am more than happy with 5.5 to 6mins flight and dont do hard 3d so the pack should get an easy ride along with Balancepro charging, also Mikes packs are a strong choice as well
