My views are entirely technical (though I may have accidentally put a bit of commercial wrapping around it, I was perhaps thinking aloud). There are known limitations of the Invensense which is not surprise given they are designed for another purpose. Since Mikado are also moving on to better sensors the blue-line vbar is not a competitor for the Vortex and there is no commercial intensive for me to put it down, nor I would purposefully do that anyway. I am pleased that they moving to better sensors because I want people to see that high end products come with high end electronics. Many people who spoke to me about fbl systems at meets will recall me being critical as well as praising various design aspects of RC electronics from servos, to radios, to gyros etc.
Now, can we move on please? This thread has started to remind me why I don't bother posting here too often.

It will certainly be interesting to see how the Vortex performs against the other FBL controllers on the market - thats for sure.
I aint no expert in electronics or 3D pilot, but i flew Spartan Gyros for a number of years before moving to FBL. Its was pretty much the tail gyro of choice for a very large percentage of pilots during its hayday. If Spartan as a whole continues its products with the same quality as in the past, the Vortex will certainly be right up there with the big boys.
Will i buy one - i dunno! I am quite happy with my BeastX units at the moment so dont think ill need one - but if the pricing is competitive then i would be tempted if i was looking for a new unit. One think i like is the ablity to plug in the datapod.
I aint blowing smoke up anyones ass, there are many others who can do that - these are my own opinions. But on my experience of using Spartan products it could be a real contender in the FBL market.

When the final release of the spartan gyro came out it was and still remains an extremely good gyro. I hope the Vortex performs as good as the gyros as Spartan probably have a dedicated band of followers who are itching to get into flybarless control but only when the Vortex is released. With all due respect there was no need to jump in and make a negative comment. Is it worth driving any manufacturers away from feeling they can post on this forum?
I trust you have your name down for one so that you will be able to share your experiencies with everyone?

Lets give angelos a break,he been good enough to come on here and be honest and open, lets wait untill the Vortex hits the street before we condem it,we all have our preferences, mine being JR radio, servo's etc, though I know there are better products'its my choice to use them. Its like asking some one to change there drinking habbit's from whisky to vodka.
Im sure once the vortex is out we will be all asking for his assistance, this is just my thoughts, yours,Marty.

Listen I've known Angelos for years when he was at Uni and we flew together with our rappies and had loads of fun. As far as I'm concerned he's a very passionate person about his work and knows way more than most on the issue of electronics and gyro's. It goes without saying when his first gyro was released its stood the test of time and still to this day is sought after.
Heck I just got a Fusion 50 FB and the gyro that's going on it is a quark.
The upshot being that you always get what you pay for in my opinion some are great some are not and some are just fantastic. When I decided to go FBL there wasn't a 3G or Beastx the best in the market was Mikado and to this day as far as I can see its still the best in the market.
What Angelos is by the looks of things is aiming to bring out a product from the get go is on par with the markets bests IMO. Using his knowledge putting in the best technology possible to give the flyers a real choice as a comparable product to the vbar and alike.
You only have to look at the more well established brands in this sector from Futaba, HC etc to see the price point has always been circa £250-£300 for the top end products. When I bought the vbar is was only a FBL system, now its also a governor and I didn't have to pay extra for this so to me you buy what you want when you want and you get what you pay for.
Let the thread remain on topic and as and when more information is released we can hopefully still have Angelos around to give some answers to prospective customers and as always continue to support his existing product line of gyro's.Cheers

I'm pretty sure actually that the thread never went off topic, Stuart! It seems like people arent allowed to ask questions without being accused of stirring, or deliberately upsetting someone. Forums are a 2 way street. Vendors can use them for promotion, for free in many cases like this, but they surely have to take the rough with the smooth, regardless of wether they are a friend of yours or not.
If Angelos feels its ok to come on here and slag off the other units already on the market, without having one of his own to pitch it against in the real world, then I can see why some would then jump back down his neck. Personally I genuinely do respect Angelos and Spartan RC. He brought a very nice product to market with the DS760, and I have zero doubt that the Vortex won't do the same, but some answers to my earlier questions would be appreciated
What is the cost difference on this sensor to the "el-cheapo" one, and what sort of ball park are we looking at for the Vortex (and also will the datapod be bundled or required for setup)?

While I agree that leaving bad vibrations unattended is asking for trouble, I think we can all agree it's preferable if your heli doesn't tip over into the dirt when they do occur.
With that in mind I don't see how extra vibration resistance can be anything but a good thing.
As for the other discussion, who frikking cares... Methinks some people are being too sensitive.Ridding the world of Helis, one crash at a time....

Hey Angelos...
Where might the hint about pricing be elsewhere on the web? Have you got any idea on a release date too?
Also it's good to see a manufacturer actually speaking their mind, rather than hiding from the public. Mikado can easily reply should they wish to but we all know they won't!
Never had an issue with a Spartan product and can't wait to try the Vortex, it may actually make me enjoy flying an FBL machine rather than always picking up my flybarred N5, Velo 90, Rex 700...

Not sure what your point is Jamie - I was simply making the point that its horses for courses and lets try and keep it on topic. All the vendors take the rough with the smooth on here - the last debarkle was Opti and FP.... Lets not take 2+2 = 44Cheers
