This may be overkill......but does anyone know if a Vortex will fit on a 250 as my current project is building a FBL 250 DFC.

Yes it does it fits fine. In fact you may even find it easier to fit because there are no cables sticking out on the sides of the unit. The all come out the front and back (in-line with the airframe) and there no buttons or pots than you need to access to tune it.

Thanks Angelos. Is the best layout to put the Vortex control unit where Align have the 3GX mounted in the manual (upside down on the gyro mount and in-front of the tail servo) with the Vortex sensor on top of the gyro mount so that it sits just beneath the main gear, or will the snsor not fit on-top of the gyro mount?
