  • CHOICE OF RADIO PROBLEMS

    Hi.
I have been using Sanwa gear from the year of dot, but as of late been having trouble finding local stockists for bits and bobs.On moving on to helicopters and a Sanwa RD 6000 and being a bit behind the door in computer radios to the extent I was flying as in fixed wing, I sought some advice from my local model store on how to set the radio up, only to be told he was not familiar with Sanwa and did not know too much about them.I then made up my mind on a complete change and began enquiring what would be the most suitable choice. On having a good look at the specs of the main vendors, I decided on the JR 8310 ADT which seemed to offer about as much as anyone could possibly need apart from those nice sexy looks, so I promptly threw my fantastic plastic at one and became the proud owner of a new JR radio.Oh dear,on going to my local model shop for the necarssary crystal so I could fire the thing up I was informed that I should be so lucky, as JR might be the choice of the north, but Futaba was the flavour down south,so now I start all over again, and I am still waiting for crystals I ordered two weeks ago to arrive, and to top that the model shop assistant said if I had stuck with Sanwa he could have helped me, but he did not know where to begin with JR. If anyone out there can give me a few words of consolation, I will be most grateful, but please be honest and tell me" HAVE I DONE THE RIGHT THING."

Well Im sorry but no sympathy here :-)
The Sanwa is one of the simplest heli TX's to set up there is. If u cant set up the heli on the Sanwa u wont find another set any easier.
Only advice I can offer is to read the manual and figure out how the various setting relate to a heli. It cant b hard, the Sanwa was my 1st Tx for my 1st heli so I started from scratch and got it flying with it.

      RADIO CHOICE PROBLEMS

Many thanks for your reply Kaymo, and it did not do my self esteem any good.
I did say that I was a bit of a dick head where computers are concerned and I do agree with you on the simplicity of setting up the Sanwa RD 6000, but in having no help made me bloody scared to try something in case I made a booby.I was handling the helli with no problems on a straight setup and did not want to make a backward leap.As I have said if only someone was around to O/K any new inputs I made on the Sanwa, and spares had been more forthcoming, I would not have thought of a change over.
On perusing the JR 3810 I think it is a superior radio, so hopefully in the future I might encounter someone at our field with an identicle radio, and if I wear my a shortest skirt, and my best makup, get some MUCH needed help.
Thanks again Kaymo but you did not tell me if my new choice of radio is any good, and please remember, I had not so much as looked at a helli until very recently, so the jargon means nothing to me.
      Mo.

          RADIO CHOICE PROBLEMS

Thanks "Helidad" you have cheered me up a lot.I am a bit green round the ears and tend to be a bit of an impulse buyer,so I was worried that I had made a bad descision.I have not had a stir yet, but it feels very comfortable to hold and I hope it works as good as it looks. What is the most commonly used radio down under Helidad?and in answer to your frequency question we fly on 35mhz.
          Mo.

JR--the radio we have------every third flyer has one

            Futaba---used quite a bit also

The other brands----you might see one now and then

If you can buy a Futaba 401 gyro and servo, --the best.
You will be able to adjust the gyro gain with your radio

I have posted sites on this forum," where to buy"

I think, personally the site below is the best in the world

              Mo,

I'm no expert on the JR8310, a couple at our club have had them or still got them. I recently changed from Futaba FF8 to a JR9X as it basically had more functions than the Futaba 9c.

If I was going to upgrade from the Sanwa I would go for the 9X, but that's my opinion if you struggle with the programming of it I'd be more than happy to help out. I didn't even have a UK manual for the 9X as it came from outside the UK 8O , but I managed to programme it within a couple of hrs.

I would say the requirement of your Tx is dependant on the style of flying you like, if its the 3D stuff then you'll need a good amount of flexability for fine tuning that generally comes with all the computer formatted Tx's, while if its just a great days lazy flying your looking for the Sanwa will run for every and a day.

If you get stuck just shout or PM me.
              Cheers
              Stuart

                radio choice

It is great of you two guys to offer advice and help in my troubles, for with the grey matter being not as sharp as it was it can be very confusing to try and read the manual for the radio, let alone understand what it is all about. In answer to Stuart's question on how much I desire in flying, all I wish to do is fly to the best of my ability, which I can better achieve if the radio is setup in a good manner.I was getting on quite well with the Sanwa, and as you have said it would have done everything I would want, but as the saying goes there is nothing like a change to keep the interest up and the JR 8310 certainly looks a tasty transmitter.I will let you guys know when I have had an outing with it, and if as good or better than my old Sanwa I will be overjoyed.Just one last question?I have fitted JR 591 servo's in the place of standard Sanwa, would it be a good idea to fit a faster servo to the rudder, or would this in my raw state be a waste.
Thanks again Stuart and Helidad it is great to have good advice on tap.

It really depends on the type of gyro you have with regards to which servo you put on.

I have a Gy401 with the S9253 digital servo and this will hold my tail as solid as a rock as its a heading hold gyro. Speed is critical for HH.

While for a GWS version with no heading hold, then your JR591's will do fine, its all down to revo mixing with non heading hold gyro's.
                  Cheers

My first radio was a Sanwa RD6000. It was a toss up between that and the Futaba FF6. At the time those were the only ones I could afford. Luckily the FF6 was out of stock as the RD6000 left it standing and I loved the set. I've since moved onto a 9z.

The JR 3810adt is a really good set to get started with and you'll not be disappointed. Bear with it and you'll soon have it sorted. I can let you have a set of crystals (new) if you'll post back the ones that you've ordered. I'll trust ya. Let me know.

If you've already bought a gyro (without servo) you don't need anything ultra quick for the tail servo whilst learning so you'll be better off spending the cash on fuel. If you've bought the GY401 w/S9253 then you're all sorted.

                      radio choice

I am more than pleased with your responce to my radio questions, and I cannot thank you guys out there enough. From feeling totally alone in my learning process, you lads have given me some good moral backing, and now do not feel so much on my own. Thanks for the answer on my rudder servo question Stuart, I learnt to fly using a CSM 2000 GYRO with only normal mode, and only changed when a chap on ebay had a Vision 2000HH for sale and I mailed him asking if it would be an easier one for a greenhorn,he replied that it would, but on purchasing it found that to get into the heading hold mode was through the transmitter and until I clicked on the way to do this I had a few frights at the field. In my first flying attempts with the normal gyro, I picked a very breezy day as I had read about the weathercock effect, and this did work very well for me,but now I have the Vision HH sorted it has given me far less to think about when on the hover, but curcuits were sometimes more difficult than with using the normal mode. From what I have learnt from you guys will save me money that can be better spent elseware, and to Phillip who has offered me crystals, the answer is that I will be more than delighted to purchase them from him, as I am still waiting for my ordered ones to arrive. Thanks again to you chaps, and I can only say that I wished you were members of my club.
                      Mo.

                          JR/FUTABA

Have you seen the spec on the new Futaba 7C it's a corker for the money.
I have one more observation - why do so many JR users buy Futaba servos !!!!!!
If it's not fun, your not doing it right !!
