Advice from you 720 folk please

My Blitz Avro came with one and I'm messing about with it on a 12FG.
As best I understand the on-line 720 manual a starting point on futaba (or the antiuqated example they use) is 90% end points on rudder. For gain I've set things up so my switches give 60% in and out on the servo monitor (actually was 58% in the gyro menu to get that).. as opposed to using the gain channel end points.

Now for other gyros.. the 611, quark and 401's I've used I normally end up with 37/38% gain on futaba's gyro menu.. and if i need more there's usually a problem. Obviously CSM uses different numbers.

Reading on the web folk seem to use as high as 90%. I ask because the tail is swinging on climbouts so I'm curious whether my setup is the correct way and what sort of gains I can expect to need.

Also tail is very sensitive so I assume I can drop the rudder endpoints a bit more?

For all that it holds track perfectly in cross-wind loops

Anyone with my sort of setup?

i used the 180 in my shuttle and for what it is it worked ok
i tried a 200 and it was crap
i've run the 400 but they drift and in scale helis with a slow head speed they don't hold the tail in a climb out

i went onto 401's, 611's and i've tried and like the spartan
i've tried the jr 770 but it drifts like most jr gyros until you get it set up perfectly
oh and only sponsored by my own wallet

and i use nhp blades also with a few other makes mixed in as well

Same for NHP, I have only just realised they do a WHITE 620mm blade that also has quite a wide chord @ 55mm compared to the Maniacs 58mm.

ill thank you for you comments and i will be passing these ideas.comments onto csm products for there interest.
actually ill pass a link to this thread onto them
i must say we have been playing with other gyro recently and comparing them to the 720.the gy520 has been great and the beast x/vbar system, but csm have good customer support and that means alot to me.

im really interested in why you do and why you dont use csm stuff

it is amazing to see comments that the 720 is chunky-how times change eh!

my very first gyro was the 560 brick-now that was chunky.

i use revlocks-swear by them infact but recently 2 have failed on different helis for no reason. thankfully i liked them so much i had spares so no down time. one day i'll get round to sending them back for repair as i assume it's nothing major-they just don't govern anymore.....anyone seen them do this? i tried resetting them and replacing the sensor/mag but only fix is new revlock in place.

if they can't be repaired will happily get another couple.

                cheers

did yours fail with the same/similar problem paul?

i'm the only one in my club that likes the revlocks so i'm the only one that has them so no other comparisons to be had in terms of failures.

                    cheers

Yup, exactly the same. Have you replaced the sensor? Quite a common fault imo.

Also had one that changes the set speeds if and when it feels like. Sent to Colin with a cheque for £10 and he will be sending it back with a new cover and chip

I have a JR770 in the Predator gasser and it's rock solid. But it has a very narrow gain range that it works in. The piro rate is totally mad unless you turn the rudder travel way down or use expo.

                          Hi Craig
Non sponsored and mainly Sports flying (maybe a few mild 3D moves to come)
I use 720's an most of my helis, once set up they just seem to work consistanlty, and to me that is the key. I had a Spartan on a 600 which was never quite there, the 720 is. I would agree with Gordons comment regarding the entry for the wires, but I cant see myself changing for anything else at the moment.
I have an RL20 as well which again seems to work great.

Probably that us sponsored guys get the 'you say that because you are sponsored' remarks.

I used CSMs before I was sponsored, then got sponsorship later, Trev convinced me by letting me borrow one of his 720s. Haven't looked back since.
I like the Revlock 40 personally, it works a treat matched up with the G sensor and a cyclock on the V50. Be nice if it was all in one box though, wires everywhere as it is

Just noticed the thread, hence not posting before.

I'm sponsored by CSM and I LOVE the 720! But as has been said by a few of the other sponsored guys I loved the 720 before and they sponsored me because I flew their gyro by choice.

I have to agree with Grant that the packaging looks a bit dated and if they re-released it with a new cutting edge design then it would do very well I'm sure.

                                BIG up Colin and Wendy!
