  • Why you should invest a lost model alarm!

Well after being stuck indoors all dat, Jamiem and myself decided to roll up to the ARA field.

I was not off to a good start, I decided to change all my fuel lines, clunk lines and rear bearing during the week, unfortunately I didnt check the lines correctly, so when I filled it up it came straight out the exhaust! Goodbye a full tanks worth!

I then started re-tuning the 55 after watching the tips shown by Bert Krammer in the Smacktalk vid. All was good, until I lost tail control.

Off I went to find it. What I should have mentioned is that we fly on farmer land that harvest rape. After half an hour of back breaking searching we decided we would let modern technology and Jamies flying skills do the work for us and we Sellotaped my phone to his N9, turned the camera on, and off he went. As expected, no joy, but certainly a laugh!

    Next brainwave, was to stack the wobbley tables up;

This didnt work either, im 6ft 4' so that was quite a view there!

In the end I went out for a last walk before I head home fell over for the 100th time, look behind me and see the remains of my Velocity canopy!

The TT had failed by the looks of it and has sheared off in flight, awesome. Damage wasnt too bad tbh, blades, canopy, TT, canopy tabs and flybar cage, still £100..

Massive thanks to Jamie, walking through that stuff really is hardwork

The walking/fighting through the crop was no fun, but the escapades in the quest for the lost Velocity was hilarious. Strapping a nokia to the N9 didnt work, just smoke in the footage, then the 450, high frequency vibes meant you couldnt see a great deal really, then the 8ft high stack of tables, wobbling in the 15-20mph winds, no joy again.

At least it is now found, but still, that TT looks terrible, specially as that machine has never ever been decked until now. Perhaps Charley Stevens will see this and comment? IMO you shouldnt be looking at any kind of a repair bill, but I suspect you will foot it...

Not good to see this Paul.

Any idea what caused the tt to shear like that?

I would not have left until found either but the long stuff can actually aid in a crash. The amount of crashes we have had and the damage has not been as bad as expected.

Well at least you found it now get it back in the air

I was on the walk back to the flight line as was going to call it a day. Not a nice feeling knowing your going to leave £800 of heli out in the rain, but if you cant find there really isnt anything you can do about it. We must have spent a good 2 hours looking for it, and when that stuff is up to your eye level and wet its bloody hard going.

100% it was the TT that failed, incredibly the boom and tail havent a mark on them, tail servo is working as it should be etc.

                  Did the blades survive mate?

My TT coming out later for a check up.

I knew it had done them when I heard it go in. The 'CRACK' it made when it struck the canopy was memorable.. Lol

Next to our club's field is farming land with 4 ft tall rape, just happens as i try inverted (it was my old trainer, i fly inverted now!), Bang it goes!!! Finding it was stupendously hard but my grandad and Neil found it, wing was intact but the bulkhead had it but it was repaired. Only for 2 flights later my instructor to crash it and demolish it for me!!! OH YEA NO SORRY EITHER!!!!
                          Thanks,
                          Jake!

Its deceiving when a heli goes in. Our site is growing corn a couple of weeks ago a member had his engine quit on a 600 and he did his first auto gently into the corn, now there were at least 5 of us who saw the heli go in and after 45 minuites of looking in completely the wrong direction the heli was found no more than 30ft from the flight line completely undamaged. the corn was only around 2ft tall but it was impossible to see even up a 20 ft ladder with mike w wobbling and holding it.
would have been easier to find without mike w laying down playin hide n seek lol.

Sorry to hear about the damage caused but you are not alone in searching for lost heli's.
