  • Tried a flip - didn't work out.....

Well it was a nice day, so I decided to put a few batteries through my re-built and trimmed 450 (the one I planted in the ceiling recently).

All went well, so I decided to be brave and try a flip - got some height, went for it ...... well you've guessed it - gravity took over and that was the end of my flying for today.

Spent the last few hours re-building it again. All the usual but this time the jesus bolt let go and actually screwed the main rotor housing bit of a pain.

It's rebuilt now but I have some bad head vibration so I think the bearings may be shot (everything else has been replaced), so I will have a look at that tomorrow.

Having a glass of whiskey now, sort of unhappy and happy - unhappy because I decked it again, happy because I very nearly managed a flip. Next time I will get a bit more height and have another go - no pain no gain!

    Cheers
    Simon

      understand how your feeling.

I woke one morning and said right i'm going to do a loop - and i did then on the 6th loop i ran out of air and smacked into some 6 foot bushes.

crashing is a set back but your trying many people wouldn't even contemplate having ago.

If you can put your finger on what went wrong then next time you'll be wiser.

Congrats on your part flip but unlucky mate with the crash. My tip for success is to go really high then just to be sure go a bit higher still. If you have sufficient height it wont matter if you screw up the collective timing so long as you just keep the elevator backwards it will right itself with bags of height to recover. Just don't forget to centre the stick as it starts to level or you'll start a 2nd flip.

Hi Simon. Really impressed you had a bash at a flip! Nice one!! What happened then not enough neggy pitch or was it orientation probs half way round? +1 with height! Took me a while to flip low - let alone indoors lol. Stick with it matey! Ps won't be at the next indoor on the 7th

I lack the gonads to try such things so I take my hat off to ya for having a crack at it!

Some bad luck you've had but you've rebuild her & have the determination to get back out there.
When attempting something new like that knowing stick position is the important part of achieving good loops so best way to do your first loop/s is to have a throttle pitch set to flat line of 90 to 100% to keep constant head speed then get heli up high then at the point of loop bring throttle to mid stick then loop this will give you the perfect loop & same for rolls.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

It's never good when crashes happen but if you can figure out where you went wrong it becomes a great learning experience.

With all my crashes I should be the wisest pilot here..........but alas...............

How does the flip go, is it just flipping inverted then back again.

Thanks chaps for the nice words! They gave me that nice warm feeling (or is that the booze.....)

Gav hit on the head - not quite enough -ve pitch so I sort of messed up - anyway it looked good for a very short time. Def going to have another go as I have to use up some of the massive amount of spares that I have. I don't think I'll be quite so nervous next time and I will make sure I get more height

                        Cheers

Good on yer for trying Simon.

I remember my first flips when I got buddied up with Grant Cooper on his 700. I was bricking it as it was windy, could hardly move the sticks I was so nervous. It was even worse when I went out to have a first go on my own!!!!!!!!

Just remember to get 3 c*ck ups high, then get a nice steady hover punch in some +ve pitch and at the same time push forward cyclic then as it goes over come down into -ve pitch and back to +ve as it comes right way up easy peassy its just a timing thing !! good luck
