      Do you reckon that would be the case at the Farlington playing fields
      Usually the passing of a byelaw also includes the erection of a sign, otherwise how are you supposed to know?
      Of course BMFA cover this in their rules by suggesting that you should have sought permission to be there flying your model. Which means contacting the council who can advise you at that time of any byelaws in force.

          Well thats going to be any bodies standard reply, if they say yes then they are are liable with todays stupid laws.
          Unless there is a big sign saying NO then I would do it anyway as long as it is safe to do so.

            There is nothing in any of their Byelaws stating the prohibition of RC model flying on any of their land,,

            They obviously wont go out of their way to encourage it i spose

            I will make safety my number 1 priority and land if i attract attention,,,

            If someone complains,which i doubt,i will move on,,till next week

            Luckily there are several little parks and rec grounds and a bit of industrial land on my patch so i can rotate it a bit,,either way i am planning some extra sticktime as at the moment weekends are my only opportunity to fly my helis as they are all nitros and i cant justify carrying my Tx,heli,battery,flightbox etc with me,,also flying a nitro in a park is takin the pi$$ a bit really

            Good thing with leccy is heli in one hand,tx case with a lipo or 2 in the other and go fly..

              I often use that one to offset the fact that the flights are short.

                True,i have been holding off jumping onto the 50 size electric bandwagon but feel i can wait no more...

                I will gladly welcome the 600 to my fleet and accept it for its shortcomings as well as its plus points,,,

                The batt technology will improve and drop in price and then i will take full advantage of it,,

                for now i just want to have one on my fleet

                  Signs, what signs?

                  To be honest I have been approached a couple of times by the parkies, but that's only when they've been called out to chase kids riding scooters off the field. They're generally alright about it and just point out that it is not strictly allowed. But the old " what if?" does play on your mind a bit and to think that you wouldn't be insured should, God forbid, something go wrong is a bit off putting.

                  Do you know what the history is with regard to the banning of flying there? I heard that it was once the local club site and that it was shut down because of guests at the newly built hotel complaining about the noise. One of the parkies seemed to think it was because of the power lines. Just wondered if you knew of any other variations along the theme?

                  Who knows if it was just a noise issue perhaps we could get them to revise the byelaw and get them to just prohibit IC flying??

                    it's unlikely there is any byelaw on it banning flying, usually these go through public consultation AND there is a general reluctance to put them in as it can overly restrict activities due to breaking of byelaws being a criminal offence.

                      I actually spoke to the Parks Dept at PCC today who told me that there was a byelaw on the site banning flying there, although I would want to see the actual document to be convinced that that was the case. He told me that it used to be Portsmouth and District MAC that flew there but for what ever reason it didnt work out. I suspect following complaints from residents or concerns about H&S. He mentioned a railway near by so I assume we are talking about the same place.

                          Hi woody,

                          Yeah, it sounds like the same place. Just off the A27 at the Hilton hotel/Eastern Road turn off. There are a couple of signs there saying no flying, but unless you are actually looking for them you don't necessarily see them. The fact that they are not particularly visible usually plays in your favour when approached by the parkies.

                          Now I know for sure that flying there could be a problem I shall start looking for an alternative site. Do you know of any good ones?

                                At the "cat and fiddle" (bike mecca and slope soaring site) there is a subscription dial in and internet access wind machine that at about 3pm was reading from 55 to 96mph average 73mph.
                                This is one of the few machines in the normally reliable network still working!
