  • Today at Epsom Downs, beautiful weather and my first flights with a recently rewound Hacker motor, now at lower KV for lower headspeeds. I am so so pleased with how the Faifa is flying now. Headspeed is approx 1300 ish. Spartan VX1.

      • i flew my trex 600dfc the mans way with the fbl unit removed
trying to trace a tourretes left/right cyclic with the cgy750
        it flew extremely well
i then refitted the old 3gx back onto it and it spazzed out and crashed again (bin time for the 3gx as i know its 100% faulty now)
only a servo gear and the front and rear tail gears are damaged
i'm pulling the align cyclics out to try some futaba servos ready to refit the cgy750

the air ambulence and the bell 47 flew great

        • After fixing my Trex 450 pro dfc from a mechanical fault (I didnt tighten the boom on properly) took it out, 1 great flight...second flight flipped it on its head...head speed slowed right down until it touched the ground.

That idle up thing is there for a reason apparently

New servo gears and it'll be okay.

Good job its only a 450...

Interesting...you flew a DFC 600 with no 3 axis gyro FBL controller and no flybar..what was it like? Very twitchy and hard to control? No stability obviously, but I would have expected it to be a nightmare.

I've flown a few of mine with the fbl unit swash gain switched off. In calm conditions it's actually not as weird as you might think, but if it's windy you'll get a lot of drift that you have to constantly correct for.

                • I'm surprised TBH, I thought that without massively weighted blades, the 'following rate' (so I read) would be too fast to be flyable on anything less than a 2 metre dia heavy scale machine...
Interesting, I may have to try growing a pair and trying it ...

Yeah I tried it because when setting up the Total-G it's very useful to put the swash gain on a switch so that you can check the movement with no correction enabled. So with that switch sitting there, I just had to try it . First with the Beam 600 and later with the Rave ENV (also with the Trex 500 but it IS pretty twitchy with no FBL correction). The bigger the heli and heavier the blades the more gyroscopic effect, so on the Rave with Radix 710 F3C blades you could lift into a hover and not imediately realise the Total-G was off until it started drifting in the wind.

it is all in the set up
you reduce the cyclic throws to give around 3-4 deg , keep the pitch as normal
they fly well with no fbl unit
don't forget in the early days of heli's there was no flybar or gyro's to use (that includes the tail), and no computer radios

                      • Didn't get to fly but I did manage to strip down, clean and rebuild my raptor 30. I also installed the new clutch, new fin set and new decals. It now looks almost like a brand new model!

                          • couple of tuning flight on e700, vortex tail gains dropped, and little on head gain as oscillating, need to look a pyro rates as different both ways, otherwise not too bad.
