  • I managed to get away from the DIY for an hour late this afternoon to test my Raptor 50 after replacing a very bent conrod. All running nice but not a fan of taking off in a good wind, but it had to be done

    • Yep, 3 flights on the warp which lost power inverted on the final flight. No idea why as the sats were still solid orange. Unfortunately the motor kicked in again just as it got to the ground which made the damage worse than it should have been. Blades, skids, canopy mounts, some servos will need checking as they feel crunchy and a new tail boom. Will no doubt find that the main/feathering shaft is bent and a few bearings will need replacing. I hope i find a loose solder joint or something else as the culprit as probably more than 100 flights since it's last crash and it has never missed a beat.

Then had 3 flights on the 480 which were rather tentative after the crash.

      • Tis better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

I got the 130x back in one piece, rotors up and skids down, but why didn't I listen to myself?

Koby popped, luckily no other damage as I was cutting grass at the time.

            • A couple of flights on the Goblin 500 with the new vbar installed which flies great, the Goblin 700 with the new vbar on still needs tweaking a little bit, I'll get there and thanks to Buzz1984 for doing 99.9% of the set up.

                • Had an interesting day today, went to the field around half ten first pack with the 7hv to fine tune the 3sx. Second flip, the heli lost power around 20feet high and had to do a forced auto. Heard a crack on impact. Checked heli, no power on motor, esc to motor lead was disconnected and broke elevator and aileron servo arm. Packed up and went home. Ransacked spares box and found new servo arms. Reprogrammed yge thinking of it as cutting out and re-setup the heli. Ate lunch and went out again. After 1 lipo with no incident, I noticed that the lead connection between esc and lipo was loose ( Im using 6mm bullets). So this is the culprit. Anyways, tightened them up by inserteing an allen key inside the bullet to open up the teeth a bit. Agility needs to be adjusted as flip rate and was slow even though I adjusted the dual rates. Turned on laptop, took ages to boot and started to rain. What a day. Hopefully I will have a better heli day tomorrow.

                  • I had 5 flights with the 500 today. The wind was steady at 8-10 mph but the gusts were 18 mph + and this made the first 2 flights very nervous. By the 3rd pack I had gotten used to the gusts and started practising my turns, hovering and flying towards me. On the 4th pack I thought it was time to flip it over and try some inverted hovering. Well this is when the heli started sounding like it was bogging every time I pulled back on the elevator. I tried going over to inverted forward and the same thing was happening. I thought something was wrong so brought the heli in to land to check everything over and this is when I realised I was in normal mode not idle 1! Dam! I always take off in normal mode and then switch to idle 1 but forgot to switch over . The last flight of the day I managed to tidy up my lazy 8's a bit more and got my turns more consistent. Just need to join them up now and do some circuits.

A good days practise in the wind and gusts. Hopefully Friday will be dry so I can get out again

                    • Had 3 flights on the goblin this afternoon. Was trying some tick tocks which were rubbish and some inverted funnels. Tomoz if its nice I wont be so nervous so can practice some more funnels. The 150 cut out on my 6th battery. I replaced the tail motor this morning, checked it when i got home and the main board smelt of that electric burning smell and now the board has given up. Took the main motor and tail off to check them on my mates and there both fine so god knows what happened there but not happy!

                      • Finally dialled the 3sx on the 7hv today. 4 packs total and loving it, tested upright and inverted bailout and it worked as advertised.

                        • I had 2 flights on the MCPX up at the field to go over what I've learned on the sim before trying to get the 500 inverted. Those 2 flights went very well and gave me the confidence to try flipping the 500 over. First battery on the 500 was superb! Managed to flip her over to inverted and held a inverted hover high up and in about a 10m2 box for 2 min ish. After that I managed a back flip, left roll and right roll into a inverted hover! I was well pleased with myself and reached a goal I had set myself. Feeling on top of the world I straped number 2 battery on and proceeded to do some hover training and turn practise. Got 2-3 decent lazy 8's and even a stall turn that was not to bad. Then back to inverted. Today was full of firsts for the 500, first inverted hover/flight and first crash.

Damage not too bad. Blades, main gear and caopy mount by the looks of it. The tail survived which was a surprise and it looks like the main shaft is also good. I've already stripped the heli down and it seems I got off lightly. I'm going to rebuild the head and replace the feathering shaft as this was where the impact force was.

And to top it off the next flight on the MCPX and the main gear split!

The only thing i'm pi**ed off about is it happened on the second battery.

Thanks, you're right could of been there for 10 min instead lol. It was a true panic/dumb thumb moment. Good job I had most of the spares to repair it so I can get back to the field Friday.
