No it was the Hobbywing platinum opto 120HV. My guess is that somehow a motor wire shorted but I have not yet examined all the wires it's just a theory. I had taken the Helidrive motor out and was trying a rewound Align 700M motor and I highly suspect the cause was in the motor wires somewhere along the line. Anyway, I need to shop for a new ESC now, probably a YEP.

Before that happened when I had the helidrive motor in it was flying very nicely, I had improved the servo linkage geometry a bit and the Total-G was working really well even at quite low headspeeds. (And on those flights the ESC wasn't even warm)

I have a YEP on the Faifa so I'll see how well it works there (Scorpion 4035/450 motor) and then decide. But if you do find the buddycode let me know

As a bit of lateral thinking, if the timing and drive frequency could stay the same, and if it could be mounted where it can be removed easily I suppose it's actually possible to share one ESC between helis, I'll have a think about that.

Thanks! It look like it has gone up a bit now, I'm seeing 101 something but that's still not bad, ends up being about £66.00 and postage is 5 something so the total is about £72. Unfortunately they're backordered at the moment but I may still go for that.

I flew yesterday in the 50 mph winds . It was a lot of fun and very good practice. It was very sunny but hard to stand up at times with the power of those gusts.

I am not letting a bit of wind stop me. The lighter models were not that happy about it though. The G4 coupled with the Cyclone blades make for a very wind resistant set up. The Cyclones perform ridiculously unbelievably well in the wind. The Rails could not really handle the gusts to be honest

Blew a few cobwebs off and got a couple of flights in this afternoon. Gave up on the third when doing a stall turn required all 13 degrees or pitch to keep it in one place lol.

Not the strongest gust but certainly up there - I had a few recorded at 35mph.

Somehow managed 7 tanks on the 600 over the last 4 days between all the wind and rain. Enjoying the Vortex VX1n and have found a nice setup for some smack flying (or my version of it) and another setup for the smoother transitional flights. A great unit at a great price.

Finally managed to get out and try my 550dfc with governor enabled love it thanks to Coolice for the settings this thing is wicked now


I did have a slight brown trouser moment in the first flight, it was fairly windy and I managed to mess up a half piro flip and end up loosing orientation and very nearly stuffed it!

Went out with mark and WOW what a day nearly see a 550 get stuffed into the ground but was saved how mark done it I do not know but well done mate. I flew my 450 all went well till I done a inverted pyro think then for some stupid reason I switch the hold switch on instead of the idle switch. done all batteries with 450 then had one flight with 500 and all was good. Despite the heavy hail showers it was so nice to get out
